I live on the Tennessee side of the Tennessee/Mississippi border, but the differences from state to state aren't immediately noticeable or so clearly defined. In the suburban area where I live, you wouldn't even notice you crossed the line if you didn't see the sign. Mississippi has casino gambling, but a few miles deeper in the state. Tennessee made a half-hearted effort to attract it, but those in the religious community shot it down. Now everyone takes their money into the next state. Brilliant. You can't buy liquor from a liquor store on Sundays here either, but you can buy it by the drink in restaurants and bars. Ironic. You can't drink bourbon in the privacy of your own home, but it's okay to go out and do it.
