- Go to I think I'll take that Toyota Tercel - could you supersize that for me?
Pat, that's funny.
Whoa, look at him. I'm glad I don't...ahhhh, it's me!

They still make a Tercel?
I had one for 13 years, but I thought they quit making them. Yes, I know that comment misses the point of your blog.
However, I support your supersize critique. I'm on my own crusade against flab. Decided the problem and the solution starts with me. I've lost ten pounds in the past six weeks, my goal is to get back to the weight I was at 18 -- so I've got 30 pounds or so to go. I caught a glimpse of myself in a full-length mirror in the women's department and before I saw the face, I said to myself at least I'm not as bad as that woman. Arrgh!!!

I read a short story about 25 years ago
It was about a girl that was born with birth defects. She had unfortunately been born with legs. No one else had legs because humans had quit using them and had evolved to a from without legs. She couldn't use the same equipment that everyone else used because her legs got in the way. She had to walk everywhere. Gasp!

You're scaring me, man
Your comments make me think of some crazy sci-fi movie whose title I can't even remember now where a child is explaining--oh yeah, it was "Signs" and teh kid is telling his Dad Mel Gibson that aliens would have large heads and small bodies because they would have less and less use for their bodies. Ironically, On this planet, when that happens the bodies just grow and grow.
It's particularly scary because, not only do people exercise less, but they justify that trend by saying various exercises are hard on them, and that it really isn't good for us(humans) to: run, jump, push. pull, raise heart rate too much. I always respond by saying that, before we invented things to do all those things for us, we did them just fine for years and years with no ill effect. We didn't die early of over-running. We died of under-running, specifically when that sabre-tooth tiger was chasing us!

BC, I've heard that. I forgot about it last night. Thanks for the reminder
I know that there was a city in Texas that was charging extra for ambulance service for obese people but it was decided that it was unconstitutional to do so. I think if you have to call in a second ambulance so that you have enough people to lift a patient, you should pay for the second ambulance's time.
They do make gurneys now that have hydraulics to raise them because EMT's aren't strong enough to lift some of the patients. Our city has one on their ambulance. I'm sure they will become standard ambulance equipment.
