At our place Friday was the general cleaning day but there was no police law about it.

as a single person, wash day is whenever the laundry is piled high enough.
my mother was also a white sheet fanatic, i believe clorox bleach was her choice of whitener.  our clothesline was just inside the woods, the sheets would have the loveliest pine scent when placed on the bed.

Whacky, It must be the law in Pigeon Holler.

Dolly Parton's Wash Day Blues lyrics:

Last Saturday night i looked like a princess, dressed in calico
Now here come Monday wash day and i look like a lady hobo

Chorus:
A rubbin' and a scrubbin'
And a rinsin' 'em out
Gotta hang 'em out early
I hope the sun comes out
Wash 'em out, bring 'em out, hang 'em on the line
Git a little tired, just think about the good times
Wash day bluehooooooooooooos

Washing is done daily
in our homestead. I loved the story. It must have been quite unnerving to hear the sirens and all. You painted a great picture. Thanks

What a great story!! I love this!

I could see your grandma's white sheets flopping in the breeze....they don't make grandmas like that anymore...

What's really funny is that the police show up at your door. That would have scared the crap outta me!!!

I do laundry when it needs to be done...not a moment before.

I wish I only had to do wash one day a week
If I don't do it everyday, it would never get caught up.

Everyday is Monday
I work on my laundry everyday. I try to do a load everyday, so that I am not overwhelmed by trying to get it all done in one day. My mom still hangs up her laundry on an outside line with those wooden clothespin that you pinch to open, but she only hangs hers up in the summertime.

What a sweet story, Whacky...It reminds me of the fact that when Nana and Grandpa were still with me, they would have homemade baked beans and brown bread every Saturday for dinner...

Thanks for sharing this with me...God bless to you and Bo....
