Ummmmmm . . .
IF Monk were to stick his hand in there, he'd totally do what you did! However, I don't see Monk sticking his hand in there. Then again, I never imagined Monk would go into a porta-potty either!

I'll admit... I have a phobia
I hate dirty hands... I wash my hands permanently... that my hands get so dry I have to put cream on. LOL
I also make a point of washing my kids hands often and drilling it in them to wash their hands each time they are from playing outside. My husband gets cross and says I am making them into little "moffies" and that they have to get immune to dirt. I must say I have relaxed a bit with them.

Julia.
If something isn't visably gross, i.e. green and slimy, I don't worry about such things. I saw a documentary years ago about all the micrscopic organisms that grow and live on the human body. After seeing a few magnified to Godzilla proportions, I realized not much we casually encounter could be worse.

I don't like germs either, it's good to carry those handy germ free wipes (especially for shopping and such)
O and stay away from boys cause they have cotties!

Ahahaha...
and think of all of the small children putting their grubby germ laden hands in there...you know, the ones just learning to wipe after using the potty? EEEEEEWWWW!
(I am sorry...that's so mean of me... but I just HAD to say it. I love Monk, too.)

Julia, I, too, am a finatic about clean hands. I go crazy when I don't have access to soap and water. What is it about us females? I was told I kept my babies too clean and that if I didn't let them get dirty, I would make them sick. Go figure!

julia - perhaps you cold bring back the tradition of ladies wearing gloves!
i have a number of gloves that had belonged to my mother, they're so feminine and lovely, but it takes a really special occasion to wear them to not feel like a weirdo out in public! however, it makes touching doorknobs a breeze!

Funny
I was at a Salsa Class and saw a fellow in the other group digging in his nose. We were asked to change partners. I have not returned to class yet! Keep anti bacteria hand soap that does not require water with you. I have it handy all the time. I do not consider myself a germ freak, yet some times, it is necessary to clean the hands!!

That was
too funny! I don't think I'd have stuck my hand in there, just for safety reasons. You ought to carry around one of those Purell bottles, so you can wash your hands anytime.

Brilliant Monk
episode!

I have heard people talk about Bushism's. Maybe we bloggers can coin a phrase "Monkism" for example "What was your worst Monkism?" LOL

YUK!!!
My son ended up with spinal meningitis for his first birthday. I literally brought him home on his first birthday. He went in really bad off. They kept him across from the nurses' station. It was scary. I had taken him to the zoo just before that, and I filled up his bottle with water from a fountain.
I'm not a germaphobe either, but to this day (17 years later) I still have it in me that he got sick from me using that waterfountain. There is is airborne as well as bacterial. I can't remember which he had now, but again, it pointed to that waterfountain.
Funny how we get that stuff in our heads. I have been back countless times to the zoo, but I can promise I haven't and wouldn't go near that fountain again.

Julia, I am extremely picky about who and what I touch and how quickly I wash up afterwards. I am much worse at it after becoming a nurse and working with that constantly on my mind. I have always hated having to be in a reception line for something or other because of that. But, I'm still alive.

What about when you shake hands with people?
Think about all the places those hands have been! Like, up noses, in private places, in the private places of others, picking teeth, wiping things, etc., etc…..When you come to think of it, it’s a rather unhealthy custom.
