I agree that the use of the terms Gomer and gork are less than tactful. You never really know just who might be listening in on your conversations with other professionals.

I've been reading a lot of articles for my Medical Anthropology class about medical jargon, and I just finished reading The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down. I find it interesting, although most of my experience is with mental health wards where they are usually a little more tactful about that sort of thing.
