Hey, Whacky-
How big is the nest? It looks like it is tiny. My 5YO thought it was neat too...he looks over my shoulder a lot

...thast a cool story. We've had doves in my hanging flower baskets on the porch in California and this summer we had Carolina wrens build a nest and raise 4 babies in a 12 pack box right next to the sliding door everyone went in and out of and then after seh got those raised she moved around to the front porch, found a planter and raised 5 more. I thought I killed them one day when I watered teh plant before I knew it had residents, but they all thrived. It was great...but never any hummingbird babies yet. They were around year round out west but they migrate here in the east.

A Nice Story
My parents have a lot of hummingbirds where they live and are constantly filling the feeders but I dont think that I have ever seen a nest. How cool thanks for sharing this great story. It reminded me I need to check in with mom.

I guess the mother bird was trying to protect her young in her territory.

Whacky, of course you were honorary. What a lovely story. My mom and dad had a special relationship with a little wren. It was so special.

That's so cool. I've never seen a hummingbird nest, although they must exist here, too. Now that I think about it, one hummingbird was seen in my crabapple tree recently. It was hovering about in one spot, and kept going back to it. It's too high up to investigate.
We have almost 6 acres here. Your mom wouldn't be going in too many circles here. I used to run the perimeter of it. It's on a downhill grade. My knees couldn't take the punishment.
