Julia.

These types of scams are by far the worst because of the air of legitimacy. However, most scams not only prey on the victim's gullibility, but also their greed. The idea of getting something for nothing blinds them to the reality they're the ones losing out.

It's sad, isn't it?
There are so many scams out there with paypal. You have to be really careful.

I get a lot of hoax e-mails from fake paypal sites.

They must have brains made of donuts to think anyone would fall for that one.

Thanks for the warning, Julia., I've heard that is one way scammers
get their targets' info, they send out a "phishing" email, like that one, designed to counterfeit an "official" website, and ask for login and password. The unwary fall into it, because it seems "official", but actually, real organizations like PayPal, banks, the government etc. NEVER email and ask for login and password, information. When you think about it, why would they?  They already have them.

Julia,
I don't think scammers THINK about other people. They just want to enrich themselves. And indeed, it's a pity that so many people fall for their tricks. We read about it in the newspaper every day. In Ghent, a gang of false policemen rings at the homes of the elderly and say they come to inspect the homes, because there are thieves in the neighbourhood. And would the people please check if all their valuables are still there? While doing so, the "nice policemen" nick all these things... A real shame!

How awful...I hate to admit though, I would have probably fallen for it.

There are a few emails to forward it to

If it's paypal:  spoof@paypal.com

Ebay spoof@paypal.com

I had someone run a whole host of auctions through my ebay account a month ago. They had to close me down entirely until they could get it under control.

The funniest ones are the ones that have a hundred spelling errors in them.

It's terrible, what the scammers will do, and yes a lot of
people do fall for it and lose a lot of money.

Yes, Julia, if they have any conscience at all, that's exactly what should happen to them.  I haven't gotten that one yet, but when I do, I'll be sure it goes to the garbage dump.

I got this email about a year ago.
You should forward this email to the proper authorities at Paypal. They will check it out and get to the bottom of it. It's the only way to stop them, to keep on turning them in.
