Oh my. That was powerful, Ariel.
To have such a regret as that is an overwhelming thought, but I know it happens to too many.

Thank you for your thoughtful and perceptive comment. Yes, like everybody else, I guess, I've known the pain of loss quite a few times.
Pity that, you just missed a little lighter piece that I've just posted.
BTW, I've never said welcome to Blogit, and wished you luck with your blog. I do so now, with pleasure. I shall keep my beady eye on what you're up to in there! LOL

Thanks for sharing/nice work of fiction
I am new to this stuff so I won't comment on sentence structure and what-not. But I can say that I thourally admire the imagery you've conjured up here. You have had an experience of tragic loss? You seem to understand the cavernous emotions that go along with this type of experience.Take Care.

Ariel70, As my son just said to me (It's his day off work), "I have things I need to do but I just can't get with the program!" I forgot to put that heading on my list of to do. Inspite of that, I have washed a couple of loads of clothes.

Thank you. I'm not familiar with that quote, and I shall try Goggling it.
Some years ago, when we lived in Norfolk, and my mother lived in Essex, I felt guilty at not having seen her for some time, and I arranged to vist her on the next weekend.
My sister phoned on the previous Wednesday, to tell me that Ma had died. Like you say ... if only

Ariel,
I may be mistquoting, and you will probably know if I am, but "Of all the words, the saddest ones are these: it might have been" comes to mind. The last time he saw his wife, they were as distant and as cold as Greenland )perfect image there). How awful to never be able to cross that distance now.

Thanks for calling in. Action this day, like chastity in the young ; a resolve to abjure cigareets 'n' whiskey 'n' wild, wild wimmin ; to return tools borrowed from a neighbour ; not to cause familial aggravation etc, etc, is an ideal worth striving for.
'course, it'll fall flat on its face, when the flesh weakens ; or more likely you forget where you left the damned list.

Thank you for your comment. I am saddened when I se things written by folks who seem not to know of the subordinate clause in a sentence. It makes their writing look like that of a schoolchild.
I left school at 14 in 1945, without any qualifications, but I did have the inestimable advantage of having parents who filled our house with books. So, naturally I modelled my writing on authors whose command of English was unsurpassed.
Seems so old-fashioned now, doesn't it? But, really there can be little nagic and power in badly written work, can there?

Airel70--- I enjoyed this. Your sentences often are some of the longest
at Blogit, but at least you have the ability to construct them properly. Most who write long sentences do not.

Tel, that's not a bad idea. I've done it in the past on here, but sort of
gave up with fiction on Blogit.
Hope you're doing OK today.

Ariel70, I think I'm going to start all of my daily lists of things to do with
Action This Day! Maybe I'll get some of them done. I really appreciate the information that you gave on the old photo. I'm already sharing that info.

Way to go, Ariel!!!
Nice tie-in between the old, sad, sweet story and the present sense of feeling old and sad. I like the peasant who pointed out the alternative... Nice read, as always! :)pat
