I really like your handy Jim.
Can I rent him from you? My mom used to grind lemons in the disposal to make it smell nice, but I think your idea takes care of the root of the problem. Take care

Hi -
always felt it was unfair that you could get garbage disposals in America and not here but now I don't think we're missing too much. Cheers.

I read this earlier but didn't have time to comment.
I used to work in the seafood department of a grocery store. The garbage disposal there, I think would have eaten damn near anything! LOL

Whacky, I have one too but I don't use it.
A dumb blonde sort of plumber must have installed mine (no offense to blonds; I am one myself) prior to me buying the house. It's on the wrong side! It's on the left side of the sink while my dishwasher is on the far right. So if I were to use it, I'd drip dirty water over the clean side where any dirty dishes would sit, in order to put dishes in the dishwasher. Duh! So mine sits unused, but I've learned to live without it.
I'm told that the occasional piece of lemon, or lemon peel ground up in the disposal will also help with odor control.

We do not have such things here!
Our garbage disposal consists of a tractor that dumps the rubbish in a pit

I didn't know you could put egg shells down the disposal...I never do so thanks for that tip too! Once a week I fill mine up with bleach ( course I am the queen of bleach) because it kills the bacteria in there too!

Baking Soda...
Is also supposed to kill the smell. We had to put a new one in when we put in a new dishwasher, the fitting for the dishwasher drain had corroded off. Now we have a new one, all stainless steel, but we hardly ever use it.
