When Queen V and I moved into our house, we didn't have curtains or blinds for every window. Duct tape and a sheet worked well enough until we could get the stuff we needed.
We also discovered they make disposable paper blinds. They're easy to install. Peel off the adhesive strip and stick it where you want. Even if you aren't tall enough to reach the top of the window, you could cover enough for some privacy. When you tire of the paper blinds, you can easily take them down. Look for them at a Home Depot or other stores like that.

in the housing industry it's called "living naked" and is quite the rage
right now so you're just stylish and contemporary!

An apartment in NY
even with an unshaded window, sounds like a fabulous adventure. Here's a temporary workaround. There are curtain rods with springs built in like shower rods that can twist to make 'em fit really snugly. You can hang a bath towel over one with some of those clips, and have privacy without putting out much money -- after you find a way to hang the shade, you can still use the bath towel...

LOL.... go for it. My neighbor is always watching. I pretty much keep
my blinds closed on that side of the house, even in the day!

You're within your own walls, so it's up to you. It's not like you're
flaunting.
