My four year old tells me sweet things every day, so does my son sometimes

I just moved back one year ago to Detroit from a tiny town in So Cal called
Rosamond. Mojave was the next city North of us, and Lancaster and Palmdale to the south. We were there for three years. It was so good to come home, and yeah, I love all the family and friends, but I am already anxious to move away again. I'm afraid my hometown is pulling me down and making me want to settle here again. Problem is, the energy in Detroit isn't particularly good!!! Where did you move to/from? I hope I'm not confusing you by switching to your post to answer....I sometimes ask questions on other's posts and then forget to go back for the answer!! LOL

one of our residents has a stuffed monkey he has been referrring to as
George...now, "Curious George" just came out on dvd, so I don't think there's a connection, but this resident is a major tease, so who knows???.....

Julia, I'm so glad that you have this added bonus to your life.  You will enjoy it, but they will remember you forever.

Julia., I think being the "cool aunt" would be the best, lots of fun,
borrow your nieces, spoil them rotten, take them places, and hang out with them, playing with toys, then hand them back over to Mom and Dad.  Sounds like you can have the best of both worlds. I'm an only child, sigh.

Children are awesome. So genuine. It's amazing how something so simple can be so profound.

Way, way cool
I never thought I was the maternal type growing up. It turned out to be the opposite. My kids' friends were always in the house.  I really, really missed them when they weren't around.  Getting to be the aunt is a special thing.  I don't have that relationship with my neices and nephews because I just have little contact with my ex's side of the family. And that's a shame, I know.  Soak it all up.  Nothing like hero worship from the little people!

I'm always my happiest when my nieces come running to hug me...
I completely understand.  My nieces are 5 and 7 and think I'm the best thing since pop tarts.  LOL   I could never move away from my family.  My heart would break.

Aaaawwwwww, that is sweet!

I wish I can have a bond with my niece & nephew, but they are too far away.

They do not know their Aunty.

Ah, things like that do make the move worthwhile...

thanks Ginnie--
I'm sure hoping that we can really become close and have a wonderful relationship as they grow older.

Very cool Julia!!
That's a beautiful post.  How wonderful that you are getting to know your nieces!  It's great for girls to have an aunt they can love and that is a role model for them.  What a wonderful relationship for you (and them) to nurture.  Aunts can play awesome roles in girls' lives.
