Definitely no soft spot
for Frank Ifield. I do remember the song, vaguely, but I was a child at the time. - oh, now I get it - Mneme/memory, right?

Hi Tony
Very true, light hearted wisdom, but still true. Brown cows, was you joging in Spain, if I jog its in pain. I enjoyed your verse friend, well wrote. Mike

Teddy - thanks! And Mneme -
By the way, with you living in Australia and being called Mneme, I bet you have a soft spot for that old Frank Ifield number, 'I Remember You'. Or don't you remember it?!

Its probably best to look on Amazon or somewhere like that and see what they've got. Mine is of the cheaper, smaller variety. I wouldn't get an i-Pod because they are only compatible with i-Tunes. It's a con. Get an MP3 player. Mine is Creative (brand) and the model is Zen Nano. It is small by most standards, but for me it works better, because I change the contents about once a month and it gives me a new selection of about 3 hours of music to become familiar with that month, stuff that I've never owned before but have always been curious about or wanted to hear again. I don't normally put my own CD material on or aspire to have my whole CD collection on, with thousands of tracks. It just becomes unwieldy then and duplicates all your collection. I've got two collections now - my CDs and my MP3 files on my computer, which keep getting updated every time I think of a few more things I want to download.

I still haven't listened to most of Rush's albums, but I'd recognise a fair amount of it if I heard it because my brother liked them in the late 70s. There are a surprisingly high proportion of rock bands who write essentially meaningless lyrics, I think. Doesn't stop us liking them though, but I wish there was more good lyric writing. Or maybe I don't really care about lyrics enough to listen, and get most of my enjoyment from the music. Good music and lyrics together that go together properly is very very rare.

Yes, ST:
I've still got my vinyl collection, or most of it, and recently bought a record player, but to get a decent sound it needs to be connected to my speakers in the other room, and I'm too lazy to carry it in there and connect it up! Doh. I liked the noise as the needle hits the vinyl, but I hated it when quiet tracks had those loud pops in them, which after a while you anticipated and couldn't actually concentrate on the music...

No, Obi - it certainly wasn't a dig at you...
I hadn't spotted your post at the time I wrote it! I've just had a look, though and left a comment there. Thanks for dropping by!

This made me smile
Can't quite get my head around the juxtaposition of the sonnet form and an MP3 player, but it works. Brevity
and wit.

I'm thinking about getting a player.
I've never really felt I needed one till lately. Any suggestions on brands, etc? btw, I like jazz, R & B and rock.

When I was a teen I listened to the band Rush constantly. They were my favorite. I thought their lyrics were mystical, magical, and profound. Now I can't figure out what the hell their singing about and I think they were probably stoned. But the music still rocks :).
Be well,

I love when. . .
I fall in love with old music again. There was something about vinyl, though, wasn't there? The concept of loving an album 'til it skips.

Hmm...
That would be boring, like the stranger who
Talks on and on while sitting next to you
In the pub, about something you don’t know
Or care. Beware! We must find common ground,
Not stand upon our soapbox and lecture.
Another’s ears grow tired of our sound,
And brevity is wit. Get the picture?
That wouldn't be a crituque of my loquacious response to your comment on my poetry blog now would it :)
Good point raised nonetheless.

Merci Marie-Claire
I used to cycle right across Manchester to work on my bike with headphones on! Now I feel underdressed if I'm on my own and walking somewhere without some music to listen to...
Thanks for your words that are so absurd
Its never fair to be told off by Marie-Claire
But she is kind, she has a good mind
She lives in New Zealand, she's always squealin'
French songs all day long
Now I'm most ready to read her post!

tony---
watch out for the sounds...
on your round
listen the hounds
the ones that pound
looking around
switch off the sounds
turn around
look what you found
snapping at your heels
or two horns looking you in the eye...
watch out Tony!
you have company...
the sweet sound of music
left you up the creek
without a stick
to fend off the geeks
the lame and the sick
life is no music
go and out seek
the real music
the sounds of life
way up in the sky...
well that should do for today, got to have breakfast now. this little ditty made me hungry... have a good one. Watch out for the bull and enjoy your vintage music till I add to your collection...
