Cypress, Amen!
The irony is that they'd lived in the house for several years, but amazingly had never used their fireplace. So I don't know if the original builder would be held accountable due to the length of time that had passed. But yes, I won't know the next chapter until I go in for another hair cut!!!

Justi I'm with ya, girlfriend. It floors me to think that people
would have the audacity -- let alone even THINK -- to do this. Good grief!

What a Low Life! I accuse both the builder and the sticky finger friend. I hope your story has a happy ending. I guess we will have to wait for your next hair appointment.

Jane's
There is a line below which humanity does no go. I don't know what sort of scum this is but it is not humane. I have never in all my life understood how any human being could loot in time of disaster. Just go in and take what does not belong to them because it is there. I don't care what you have or do not have if there is a shred of decency in you, you will not steal from the victims of disaster whatever kind. One might in a small town take out an ad in the paper thanking all the friends who came to help after this fire and ask all the friends of friends to bring back what they lifted because it was available. I doubt it would shame them. How can you shame a person who will do this?

Amazing. Heartless and amazing. I hope there's an extra hot spot for people who prey on the disabled and those in distress. Grrrrr

Holy smoke, Jane! That is terrible, cold and calculating!
It is hard not be cynical and say, nothing surprises me anymore, but I keep holding on to faith in people that folks like this man are still in the minority! Thanks for your comments on my last two entries, I truly appreciate you and enjoy your writing style immensely. Keep writing,

Moxie, funny you should mention the Amish.
My mom just sent me a great article on them, speaking of forgiveness and love.
I think your idea of throwing a house party for the true friends is a great idea; however, imagine what could happen if they also invited the "friends of friends." Talk about a hard lesson in unconditional love, eh? Pouring heaping coals on your enemy? Giving your enemy a glass of cool water when it's not deserved? Hard to do, but it would be a good lesson for their kids.
Great comments, All. Thanks for stopping by!

TAPS, I am so with you on this. Which is why I swallowed a fair amount
of hair yesterday, with my mouth hanging open as she snipped away and related to me the details. I told her that, had I been one to go help clean up the rubble, the LAST thing on my mind would have been to steal from them. WTF were people thinking??? Pardon my swear words but nothing else will do.
PS -- my hair do turned out pretty good, in spite of the subject of our conversation as she cut my hair!!

Blanche, I agree with you. And if you haven't checked out Azur's link
below, you should. Talk about cold hearted and calculating. I am dumbfounded when I think about what humanity is capable of doing.

TAPS,
I just came to read this again, too. I think that if someone is so selfish and coveting to take something that isn't theirs to being with they would have no shame if they were caught. This is just really a disgraceful representation of humanity.
It's too bad more people don't behave in a generous peaceful fashion like the Amish, myself definately included. Because I really want to go over and yank up the neighbors yard.
Once they move into their new home they could always throw a sincere thank-you-house-warming party for the real friends, few as they might be, who did honestly assist them.

JanesOpinion, I had to come read this again today. I can't believe the audacity of some people when confronted with a wrong doing. I wouldn't take something that wasn't mine in the first place, but if I did, I would die of shame when caught at it.

JanesOpinion, it's sad how someone could take advantage of someone's
misfortune that way, in such a cold and caldulating way, and not even bat an eye. It makes me wonder why some people have a conscience and others dont'. As well as how people lie to themselves. The guy who took them probably rationalized it in some way, in his own mind, that he was entitled and the other wasn't.
That's the sad part of human nature, the good part is when friends and neighbors rally to help someone in distress. It's a mixed bag, humanity

Pat B, they're moving in to their re-built and more beautiful home
this week! Needless to say, they are extremely excited. And regarding the fireplace, she said that her husband had four different inspectors out to verify that the chimney had been installed correctly.
I hope, for their sakes, that all four inspectors are correct in their assessments.

Corbin, I think a gallon of roundup would certainly
teach a good lesson! But in this situation, perhaps they are trying to teach their kids that vengeance belongs to God . . . .

Nautikos, that's a good idea. I would probably have done what you suggest!
But I think my stylist friend and her husband have shown amazing restraint when they could have done so much more. This whole house burning experience has done wonders to their family, brought them closer together and closer to God. I think they are probably inclined to overlook some of the meanness of humanity and be grateful for getting perennial halves back.

I came to sympathize with the guy who lost his plants...
and to say yes, I would believe people will kick you when you're down. Then I saw Azur's link to my blog and sat there in shock! Wow! So now I have to say that folks on Blogit will also offer a helping hand and a kind and useful comment. I hope the family gets a new home quickly, one with a safe fireplace -- and that insurance will cover the losses. As my friend Sharon says, material things don't matter, as long as the family is safe. :)

Hmmmmm......
I'd find out what charges I could file against the man...If that didn't work.....
I think about a gallon of "roundup" should settle the issue if they're not returned.....

Besides, Jane,
what this guy did was theft, plain and simple. The owner should go to the police or the JP and swear out a warrant for that guy's arrest!

Oh NO, they did NOT ?!?!?! How dare they.
What disgusting low-lifes. I would be SO furious, SO livid Ghengis Kahn could not hold me back. I would gather together my client-friends, or hire some worker-bees and march right over there in broad daylight and uproot every single one right from under my neighbors nose. If your stylist needs help and support you tell her to give Moxie a call!
