I gather a silent reader is someone who drops by
but doesn't leave a comment (duh). I wouldn't even know how to determine if some one had stopped by my blog unless they DID leave a comment - that's how thick I am. As mentioned by some, sometimes you read and you simply don't have anything profound to say. Is that bad blogger etiquette? I dunno.....

Definitely the downside Julia - you covered them well
I always try to comment, but sometimes words fail me and many bloggers don't appreciate only emoticons. The bright side of Blogit outshines, imho.

Julia, sometimes there is just nothing to say.
So, rather than leave a comment that disagrees, perhaps it is better to say nothing. I like comments as much as the next person, and as far as rankings go, or insincerity, I'm only as insincere as the next person.
I was very surprised to find myself where I am. I didn't plot to get there. It just happened. Even when I was fed up and ready to leave, surprisingly by speaking my real thoughts and my heart, my rankings rose. That was a nice surprise.

Yes, I've done a bit of that, but only because some people are... silent readers! You comment on their sites and they just don't return the favour. But if they did (looking on the bright side) then I'd never have time to do anything else apart from blogging and commenting. Always look on the bright side of blog (cue whistled tune a la Monty Python...)
