Well, thank God, we've gotten a break from the diluvium here; it was unreal
That poor guy from Virginia is convinced that it rains like that all the time. It doesn't, but it sure hit with a vengeance, the rivers are flooding south of here, and two women in Oregon swept out to sea. I"m glad I live in the city on not on the rivers because they are unually high and rising.

We're about three hours from Richmond. I've heard of it, but I'm not sure where it is exactly. We're doing okay today. It's rainy here, too.

Yes. Fire is entrancing, but like a wild animal: it must be respected.

Sorry, no, got that wrong, it's "Colonial Heights", VA, and Laurel Hill is
a suburb of it.

Have you heard of Colonial Hill, Virginia, Avant? That's where this guy was
from. Ironically, my supervisor for the day had been stationed nearby at Fort Lee and knew exactly where it was. Life is funny that way.

What surprised me most is how loud it can be. You have to yell in a house fire to be heard.

Sometimes, I hear a little snippet of information, and it turns out to be exactly what I needed later. Life has a way of showing you what you should know.

Avant-Garde, as I listen to the news, Virginia's race is still too close to
call. Interestingly, I met one of your fellow Virginians today at the polls. Two Dept. of Justice agents showed up today at our polling place today, one of them from Virginia. They just flew in this morning to oversee elections, and I talked to Greg, the DOJ rep. from Virginia, he said he was from Laurel Hill, somewhere near Richmond, do you know it? He and his partner were checking for elections violations.
Unfortunately for him, we are having one of the rainiest falls ever, the deluge is reaching antediluvian pre-Ark levels, and he is sure that is how it is here all the time. Not true, just an unlucky seasonal aberration. I'm sure he can't wait to get home.
Happy birthday to Noah! I hope he's having a fun day.

avant-garde, This is very interesting. I also have always loved and yet respected fire. No camping trip would be the same without a campfire, no Christmas at home is quite as effective without a cozy fire in the fireplace. But one has to always keep in mind the possibility of setting a forest fire or burning down the house and practice rules of safety.

Avant, thanks for the good information. It would helpful
if you wrote other information about the dangers of fire. I still relive the fire my uncle and family survived. Even though I was only 6 years old I can still see the cans and bottles exploding and glass flying out of the windows, you know the scene! Dad had to run to his hardware store a block away and get additional axes for the firemen and my cousins on top of the building with firemen cutting holes in the roof.
I apologize for the error I made in the first draft of the D-book and credited your entry to Justi, it is fixed now. Sorry,

Avant -
Fire has always fascinated me too. There is nothing better then sitting around a campfire (or a fireplace) and just watching the birth, growth, and death of an entity with so much power.

I was once staying
with friends in an old farmhouse and as I tried to go to sleep I heard something. I went downstairs and discovered the room below was on fire. Had I gone to sleep without checking all of us would probably have died. Providence

Avant, it is nice to see you back, I've been checking your blogs daily, too
Very interesting and useful information here, and no, I do not think it's too long. In fact, it could be expanded, I think. Fire scares the hell out of me, as I think it should any thinking person. Knowledge dispels fear, though; I didn't know that about backdrafts, flashovers and inhaling superheated gases being lethal instantaneously. Scary but good to know.

No, we've all had colds, but we're getting better. It's been really hectic lately. My wife got a new car, but we had to drive to Richmond to get it. A few other things have eliminated my ability to sit down and type for any amount of time. Glad to be back. Thanks for the concern.
