It must be a terrifying experience, Blanche.  Seeing it on television makes us go 'Oh and Wow' but I can't imagine what it would be like to actually happen.

TAPS
I sometimes wish I lived in an apartment, TAPS.  I love watching the world go by.

JohnMcnab, it is scary to watch, I feel for my neighbors nearby as their

houses wash away.  I have felt smug that I didn't think that anyone should build in a flood plain, but sometimes it's inevitable, and it doesn't negate the need to help.

I'm sorry about your cousin.

Johnmcnab, Son #3 is busy as a beaver doing all of that sort of get-ready-for-winter work on his property.   Son #2 in FL doesn't have to worry about that unless a hurricane blows things around.   I'm just glad that I live in an apartment and get to watch someone else bag leaves, blow or shovel snow, trim trees, etc.

Dave
LOL.  At least Norwood is an androgynous name, Dave.

A lovely Autumn picture there, John.
Sparked a memory of a visit to an animal park on the Isle of Wight where they had a beaver. His name was Norwood. Made me laugh. Especially when they found out he was a girl.

ginnie
LOL!  And the most important part of a Canadian summer is a Tim's Iced Cappuccino........and the most important part of being Canadian apart from the flag and 'eh' is Tim Hortons.

But Mac...the most important part of a Canadian winter is....
...unrolling the rim to win at Timmy's!!!!!!!!!

johnmcnab,
I love snow too, and you sound right at home.. this has a nice suburban-backwoods feel to it, especially the last paragraph.. imagine having these little creatures in your own back yard.  Possums somehow just don't cut it.

Thank you, kingmi.  I intend to have a fabulous winter, and I hope you do the same.

Whacky
Now that does sound like a wonderful idea, Whacky.  Can you just imagine a squad of beavers building roads, with the one holding the stop sign with his/her tail while still gnawing away with those sharp teeth?

You have no idea how much I am looking forward to the snow, ginnie.  When that happens I won't need to feel guilty because something hasn't been done.  The hot chocolate sounds delicious - I usually drink coffee, but I might have a sudden change of heart.

Blanche
We have definitely been beavering away, Blanche.  We got the last thing done yesterday - I hope - winterizing a motorboat.  We've been so busy I'm exhausted and I have a notebook full of headlines for articles and blogs but I've been too tired to even transfer them to the computer - which reminds me, dam it....I know, I know, it was a bad pun.  Thank your educating me again, Blanche with the diluvium word.  I've seen snatches of the flooding in Washington and heard of the people drowning.  That is a bit close to home, as our cousin was drowned in a flash flood in Australia 3 years ago.

johnmcnab, I see you are happy. that makes me happy! Have a great winter.

You suppose we could get those beavers to

do highway construction? Now that would be awesome!

Beavers rock Mac!
I love them. You might not feel like one of those crazy Canucks who bbq's all year round (they call it grilling here) but you've certainly been a busy beaver! Must feel good to get it all done...now you can drink hot chocolate all day while you're writing. Gotta love the winter! I love 'em all!

JohnMcnab, aren't beavers busy?

Are there lazy beavers as opposed to busy beavers or are they "dam" lazy?

it does sound like you and Ell have been, either busy as beavers or bees, take your zoological pick.  I guess snow it a great motivator. Western Washington is virtually underwater.  The "pineapple express", some unusual meterological development out of Hawaii, is forcing a diluvium on us. No joke, people  have drowned in their pickup trucks. Sad.
