nice to meet you here. John Donne wasn't the only one, a lot of the poetry was circulated discreetly - imagine anyone being that cautious nowadays..!

I was recently studying the poetry of John Donne
Donne's poems were not published until after his death, they were hand copied and privately circulated during his lifetime. Many copies survive, so we know they were widely circulated: the 17th century equivalent of Blogit perhaps!

Hi Dave..
I didn't expect you to, only to recognise the programme. It was Cleggy I think. I love it most of all for its scenery, and it's nice that you live so close.

Mneme, regarding Last of the Summer Wine, I don't much care for the
programme, but the town where it's filmed is only six miles from here. I have some photos of the cafe and Nora Batty's house. There's a great tea rooms next to Nora's house called "The Wrinkly Stocking Tearooms". Holmfirth makes the most of its connection with the programme. I don't know which character was writing his memoirs.

You definitely should have. I like poems that examine the art.

Blanche,
I know what you mean. I don't bother much with fiction. I started writing short essay/memoir pieces a long time ago for NPR but never had the courage to send them in.

I've almost completely given up on writing fiction, Mneme, the memoir/essay
and poetry fascinate me too much. And yes, Dave had better hurry.

Troosha,
thankyou - it's true, they are mainly expressions or impressions, all in shorthand. the discipline comes with the work of putting things into formal rhyme or meter and I'm working on that from time to time. haiku can be fun, I find, and easier than I thought.

Tonyzonit,
I do remember, vaguely, that they were chaotic :) I seldom write them down unless they seem to say something or were particularly striking. Haven't had the dream that would make me into a Mary Shelley, although I'm rather glad not to..!

Poems are so often a rapid outpouring of thoughts
as you've done here and, I think, did it very well!

Hi Mneme
A poem partly about memory, appropriately for you. Can you remember any of last night's dreams? Once I started keeping a diary of them, but I began to realise how bloody stupid they all were, and stopped!

Goodnight all..
I'm going to sleep now, and we'll see what clarity - or nonsense - emerges overnight.

Hi Blanche,
no problem :) I was partly thinking, while I wrote, about a character in one of my favourite tv programs (Last of the Summer Wine.. Dave would know it). He was writing his memoirs, while he could still remember them.

Mneme, I can so relate to rushing to capture the past before it's gone,
even with a computer, rather than quill and parchment, it seems a race against time to me, but necesssary. Beautifully said, and I sent you back mail. Never fear about sending email. I overgeneralized about another email that upset me. Friendly email I have no problem with, and I'm sorry I didn't respond sooner to your ealier one. I was busy and distracted.

Taps, thankyou
- that can happen sometimes. And did you mean this small space, or the (even smaller) space between my ears..?

I was thinking earlier how sad, and how creative, some of those past lives were. I was also supposed to be working.

that's very sweet, and thank you for the picture too. You didn't know this but on my mother's side the family came from Wales originally.

Hi Marie-Claire,
yes, perhaps there is a hint of yours in there, though I am doing a lot of reading on dreams, myth, and poetry, so these are also the things I am interested in - more fun than the everyday. It amazes me that you found so much in it...I like to keep busy:)

Don't ask your artistic eyes, ears, heart and fingers...WHY?Just obey.I luv
where you go...I went there just now myself. In on eof my less popular blogs about Poetry and DEFINITIONs I celebrated pictures (on the internet) and in my moind and recent park visits, with prose that is lyrical and colorful. It just seemed to me (and only me, even perhaps not you) that in far-off Australia, Mneme is thinking and experiencing the universe as beautifully as I am. ONE EXCEPTION: I was propagandized by the American system to always end on a positive note. So I won't question why I produced the quality art U just did, and questioned...LOved it. Thanks Dear Mneme.

it is nice stream of consciousness stuff and it is enjoyable following you
in your wander, I can see where you went, it is a pleasant journey into your mindscape, i saw my poem in the beginning...(ethereal reference) I saw your comments to johhmcnab, (busybody me) and the influence of classical poetry, and more, homelife and memories, it has an upbeat fast moving rhythm like a collage, like flicking through pages quickly and a very nostalgic feel. Very enjoyable.
