Smoking, Whacky.  I wouldn't mention it to your friend, but I am going to look it up and see why patients might burst into flames. Most odd.

These instruments
are closley regulated by the FDA. The FDA I know isn't good at regulating much, but with all the instrument mishaps in the past they have cracked down with tiugher enforcement on the hand held surgical tools.

Whacky, Keep your big yap shut!  I have read about patients bursting in to flame on the operating table.  When I first heard that I swore off of surgery for life.  Very interesting post.

I used to volunteer at a hospital. This guy had to carry around some kind
of a gas tank with him 24/7. He was forbidden to smoke, because he might blow everybody up if he did. I tried staying away from him, but once, I was assigned to push his wheel chair (and the gas tank), it was so scary.

Maybe afterwards if the poor woman is already scared!

I don't know.
Do you think it would help calm her fears or just add more? It's probably not available where she will be having the surgery anyway, seeing that it's a new thing and all.

I wouldn't want to know.
Maybe after the surgery.  I have Johnson & Johnson cue tips and baby oil.  I wonder if it is the same company?  Take care and good luck to your friend
