It was obvious to this feline nurse, at least, that you didn't have all the available information at hand. As far as cleaning the smoke alarm, my humans have indeed been keeping it immaculate, using at least a can of air every time one of these incidents occurs.
My human will be updating her blog with something that has happened since I wrote this set of Field Notes. Thanks for reading my blog.

Take the battery out of the smoke alarm.
But then that does make things difficult should a fire break out unexpectantly.
Perhaps you can have one of your humans clean the smoke alarm. That might help.
