That's one thing about war I *don't* like!
Soldiers - who are often at a very impressionable age when they go off to armed conflict - are carefully taught by superior officers to hate the enemy, and one of the techniques they use is to borrow racial/ethnic epithets from the wider culture (or perhaps create some themselves). I won't bother to print any of them here; had I used them as a child, I would have seen the back of my father's hand with frightening rapidity. We have a brand of potato chips here in Chicagoland that had to change its name to Jays because the original name of the brand of chips was a racial slur against the Japanese - they didn't want to be seen as a Japanese product during World War II.
