Hi, kidnykid,
I really enjoyed the M*A*S*H movie, and a lot of episodes from the TV series it spawned.  The movie, Gosford Park, was also an exceptional film, in my opinion.  I was surprised at how much I liked it.  It was one of those I happened to pick up at the video store, and I was glad I did.  This man was truly talented.

kidnykid, As you probably know, Robert Altman was born and raised in my town, Kansas City, MO.  My husband's first real job after high school was at Calvin Movie Productions where Robert Altman was making movies after his return from Hollywood where he was basically a failure at that time.  Later he went back to Hollywood and finally got going there.  Altman leaves a wife (his third) and four children (now older adults).

I don't particularly care for most of what I've seen of Altman's directorial work - his movies don't necessarily have a plot as moviegoers would understand the term, but tend to jump from incident to incident, in a seemingly random fashion. A Prairie Home Companion comes the closest to having a plot, and that's dictated by the structure of the script - they're basically filming an episode of the show.
