Julia.
Julia, you are a fine person.  We are all human and display human behaviors.  When I do something someone else thinks is dumb, it doesn't mean I'm dumb, for I am actually smart, cuz I know what I am dumb at. Sometimes, I appear childish and sometimes I tend to be sincere, serious, prolific and confident.  Personally, I don't care for negative labels of any sort.  Julia, I repeat you are a fine person and it isn't always easy but, I find it beneficial at times to just let things go......whether a blogger did or didn't insinuate you are childish, remember that our behavior at one moment is not what we are for all time. Please take this in the way it is intended.  You must know my motive is not to hurt your feelings.  It was hard for me to write this, because I don't want you to take it wrong at all, but I remember you would prefer a comment left.  I just feel that the behavior of a person is separate from the person themselves, for we are all growing through new experiences and what one person thinks childish, another may feel differently. Take care Julia and I hope a lot that we are still friends.

I agree with Terpgirl, Julia, real writers do ignore the drama and just
write. It pays off in the long run.  And the rest, eventually fade away into oblivion.

Not taking sides

because what I've figured out in the Blogit wars is that as soon as one storm blows over, another starts...and usually with the same group of people.

Childish is bothering to perpetuate all of this stuff.  The reason children continue to throw temper tantrums is because it gets them attention.  Good or bad attention doesn't matter.

Same as on Blogit.  The same people write about it and write about it...how they are wronged, how people talk about them (and I've done it).  It isn't going to end.

Ariala wrote a column a few days ago about how some prolific and successful writers at Blogit make it because they choose to write about REAL things. They ignore the craziness.  They look at what goes on around them and ignore the nutjobs who bait us.

Julia, this is not meant for you, since like I said, I've done it, too.  It doesn't matter if it's right or wrong.  It zaps soooo much energy from the things we really want to do.

A year from now no one will care about who did what to whom (except the seriously petty who live for this stuff).  I joined here to write about things I don't get the chance to write about in the outside world.  When these people lure  me into a fight, I will write a friend offline who knows the parties, then just go about writing about something that matters to me.

Can you imagine how much that annoys these people. They get no rise out of you whatsoever.   They look like idiots.

It's a tough thing to do, but really, really effective.  You can be popular and have a good readership without mentioning the various Blogit wars. And it feels so much better for the soul, too.

If you want, I'll answer your questions offline, but think about it, do you need me to validate this?  You already KNOW the answer.

Hmm, I suppose as it relates to the action in question..

...but haven't we all had moments of behaving badly, immaturely, foolishly, etc. I have, but I don't believe myself to be a bad, immature or foolish person. Imperfect, yes...:)

Hope you had a great holiday week-end too Julia.

I think I like your childish side
So if I were you, I'd ask BQ and then ignore the rest.

I think it's impossible to make that distinction unless someone actually says "I think you are acting childish in this instance, but I don't think you are childish in general..." And who has time for that?

I think that it pays to take the opinions of random strangers online, whom

we would not know if we crossed paths with them on the street, with a very large grain of salt. As in, not much.  I am far less inclined to get worked up, as I used to, over the opinions of bloggers now that I've worn the virtual crown for a little while.  Remember you were Queen Julia, and laugh it off.

Or maybe "Power corrupts, absolute power tends to corrupt absolutely" HAHAHAHAHA

Julia., Most everyone acts in a childish manner at some time in their adult life and at that moment they are a childish person.  Thank heaven it does not last forever and not even most of the time.  When not acting childish, an adult can be a very wise and mature person.

Julia...

It's pretty simple really;  If someone is acting like a jerk, s.o.b., childish, selfish, rude or whatever...then, for the duration of that action they are exactly a jerk, an s.o.b., a childish, selfish, or rude person.  You CANNOT seperate the person from the action...at least not while the action is ongoing.  When that person ceases to act in that manner then they can go back to being themselves...if the action is not consistant with their nature.

So sayeth the ALF

no it's not scary at all!! lol. however, you didn't actually disagree, because what I said is that a thoughtless action doesn't label you thoughtless "in general"...but "specifically" as it relates to the thoughtless act. Still following?? ;-)

Julia
I disagree.  If someone told me I had done something thoughtless I wouldn't translate that into thinking they consider be thoughtless in general. I would, however, re-think the moment, undoubtedly recognize my thoughtlessness, and apologize. But I wouldn't come away from the event classifying myself as "thoughtless".  Quite the contrary, I'm a very kind person but I'm not perfect and can make mistakes.

Isn't is scary that I actually followed your line of thinking?

paintbrushing tends to leave semi-permanent stains doesn't it?

bandana--
I agree with your take on this--which is why I said that one action doesn't make someone something--but that it DOES make them that, at least in relation to that one action. No?

while certain personality traits are strong within a person, i'm shy about
paintbrushing a character as one thing or another.  we are all a mix of capabilities and faults, the good needs to be brought to surface and remembered when the bad is holding court.

A dead serious person can be funny sometimes, but that doesn't mean
he is a funny person. I think we are everything, a little rude, a little childish, a little smart...etc, but in order to actually label someone as something, such as "X is a rude person", X has to be rude many~most of the time, otherwise, X is only just as rude as everyone else... therefore, not particularly a "rude person".
