We talk about the environmental impact of virtually everything else, but not the impact of all the trees cut down to produce the paper necessary to send us all those credit-card applications. About the only people profiting are the banks (who get all that credit-card interest from the people who apply successfully) and the postal service (which gets a nice chunk of change from all that postage).
