We were a captive audience.  The program chairman of our Woman's Club engaged this guy on a recommendation of a friend !!! I don't think she had ever heard him sing.  Well, he is middle age, never studied voice, sang songs that were from a wide range of composers and then slid all around the notes. We were physically located in a Church Commons Area and I had to behave.

I agree, the piano or accompanist  has to be good. She was o.k but not very supportive.  I think she could have helped a bit more.

Now I need to say something nice about the program, hum, oh yea the words were appropriate for the season.

cameraeye,
Lol, I'm tone deaf, unless I have accompaniment. With a guitar or piano I'm mostly on key. But my strength is in a wide variety, genre and era. I started learning folk, switched to soft rock, then to country.

I do holiday parties and gigs where they need background music for several hours at a time.

Where did your off-key singer play? Hope it wasn't me. I have a guilty conscience (just kidding).

Hi Wacky

Excellent suggestion, you could have made money tonight selling earplugs at my table.

Sally

I am sure when you sing, the world opens up, the roses bloom and all is right with the world.
