bandanafish,
thanks for dropping in. T is for teaspoon, cumin is for
Cumin (Cuminum cyminum), a flowering plant in the family Apiaceae, native from the east Mediterranean to East India.
Seriously...

Passionflower,
Well, one reason I use black beans here is that they make for a nice contrast with the yellow corn and red tomatoes. But I guess red beans would be alright too. To be honest, I have never been able to detect too much difference in the flavor of the various kinds of beans, except maybe for fava beans.
And I'm blogging from the Great White North, aka Canada, which at the moment isn't white at all, at least not in Toronto, where the only snow we've had is visible on my previous post, and where, being Canadian, we're allowed to to say both coriander and cylantro...

This sounds delish...but what if you don't like black beans?
What could you sub?
{Ps-what country do you blog from? here in the US we normally call coriander leaves by the name of cylantro.}

that must have been quite the experience, and much nicer than cable any day! Of course, my birdie here is not a peregrine, but 'just' a cuddly Cooper. I can't quite see the peregrine dancing either, unless it's with a dagger in his beak....

Just noticed the beautiful peregrine pic, back when I was a single
mom, myself & Leone lived in a large one bedroom attic flat in front of a large rock face with the train tracks in between.
There was a nest, with two baby peregrines & as far as I could make out only one parent (or maybe only one at a time) who's growth we tracked over our few months there.
All I had were these stupid cheap ass opera binocs so the detail wasn't great & even though Leone wasn't even 2 at the time, I would hold her up as long as I could bear it, to peer through slanted attic window to watch them.
They were so beautiful, and we had no cable.

This is right down my alley. I have made black bean salad before, but this sounds better. I will do it this way when I get the ingredients I don't have right at the moment (specifically, the Canadian wine. LOL)

Thanks Naut, I rethought my comment in case you were wondering who I was at
first, didn't want any more drama in here.
Hope you're all fixed now & surely recovered. Am off to bed, went to the office Xmas party last night & though my heels were sexy as hell, my knees are feeling the repurcussions of their masochistic infliction & the unaccustomed impact injuries of dancing to Shakira's goat impressions & songs for moving previously stationary wobbly bits.
What was I thinking?
Good to be back.

this only emphasizes my impatience in the kitchen. ten minutes to
make a salad? i eat a rinsed head of broccoli and might follow that with a carrot and a bagel. if i ever earn money for money's sake, i'm gonna hire a cook.

say to put it in the fridge overnight.
