I think that has to do with what you mentioned in another entry in this blog. You mentioned that those who have their credit histories accessed frequently have a lower FICO score than those who have lenders (and credit card companies) access it infrequently, all other things being equal (like payment history and so forth). It could be that Lending Tree customers are having their credit histories accessed frequently enough to make them look desperate, which in turn makes them look like deadbeats (because their score gets lowered).
