Whacky...
When all else fails, follow the directions. My hubby teases me, cuz I usually do that last when I am assembling or I only give the directions a quick scan.
My son and I put a cubbard together once and we had so much fun and laughed so hard my cheeks were hurting.
I enjoyed reading your post, Whacky.

my bike had to be 'no assembly required', my dad was a numbers person, great at math, but assembly? no way! I would have been foot bound all my childhood years if he had to put something together like that!

my ex always told me next time pay someone to put the bike together, I think one year we did get on already assembled. It was an Evil Knieval bike for my son of course

I always thought assmebly required meant throw the directions away
or only follow them as a last resort....I can well remember, "Dad, you're nuts, let us put it together."..or words to that effect..
