Comments on President Gerald Ford

For someone with such a short tenure as President - just over two years (August 1974 to January 1977) - Ford was surprisingly influential. I remembered something else that might have contributed to his losing the 1976 presidential election: He made at least one serious gaffe about the true influence of the Soviet Union. Long before the Cold War ended in the late 1980s, he claimed that the former Soviet Union (Russia and all those Soviet republics which came into being when the Cold War ended) was less powerful than it really was. Talk about hoof-in-mouth disease!

You know . . .
I mentioned his death to a co-worker, and she replied, "Who's that?"

I was flabbergasted!
