I love your mother.
She'd be the perfect star of a sitcom. Do you watch "The King of Queens"?  Sounds like her character and the Arthur character would make a perfect couple. Thanks for this post. I really needed it. :)

Holy Grail--
No, I think we should probably call that a draw!!! LOL.

That may be worse than the last minute shopping Dad on a TLC ad who gives his kids protein powder and bologna.

ROFL

Your mother and my aunts should get together!  Wait . . . no . . . that'd be just too frightening!

One year they sent J's daughter (who was 9 or 10 at the time) bug repellant for Christmas.

YIKES!

Ohhhhhhmy!!!!!!!
hahahaha  Nothing worse than getting ugly curtains for Christmas!!  So. . , what you going to do when she comes to visit your home and looks around to see where you hung them??  LOL

afzal---LOL.
While what you say is true, I'm having a hard time seeing how you got that from this post! ;-)

well, I think it would be hilarious, and I would do it but my sister got all the "craft-y" genes in our family!! I can't sew worth a darn. hehe. (sorry about the bad pun!)

well if they are, then she should have kept them and hung them in HER house...LMAO.

OMG
Julia I can't take anymore laughter tonight...You have now made my stomach hurt! Do you ever think about re-gifting? ROFLMAO...

janes--
firstly, how much skiing could be done with a dump truck full of snow? LMAO. Secondly, the socks were okay, a lot better than the pukey yellow pair I got last year. I mean, WHO wears yellow socks??? ;-)

posted by Julia. on December 28, 2006 at 4:46 PM | link to this | reply

hahahahaha, don't tempt me.

posted by Ariala on December 28, 2006 at 4:41 PM | link to this | reply

Julia.
Maybe the curtains are special ones to be hung to keep aliens from returning.

posted by TAPS. on December 28, 2006 at 4:40 PM | link to this | reply

too funny.

Are your new socks something you would dare to wear in public????

(And by the way, instead of FedExing some snow, perhaps you could comandeer a dump truck?  I have friends who want to go skiing this weekend, but may not be able to go due to a dearth of the white stuff . . . .)

glad you got a laugh--Maggie told me I should be grateful that I had anything to eat, so I thought I should put in the disclaimer this time around. LOL.

bel--
oh no, no!! The potato salad was much more edible than the cardboard pizza. And yes, my mother is quite the quirky one!! LOL.

Ariala--
Here's an idea--I'll send them to you, and you can make the doilies...then I'll wrap 'em up and give them to her NEXT Christmas!! LMAO.

posted by Julia. on December 28, 2006 at 4:34 PM | link to this | reply

hahahaha... I really enjoyed the disclaimer....
like, yes I know people are starving in Africa... now can I bitch for a bit?  LOL   Nicely done.  LOL  Oh, and good luck with the curtains.  I always find that giving unusable gifts to Goodwill makes for a nice tax deduction.  LOL

posted by -blackcat on December 28, 2006 at 4:32 PM | link to this | reply

OK I could have handled the strange food

except for the store bought potato salad as that should be banned by the FDA.  My mother in law is capable of much, much worse.

The gifts are ummm "interesting".  Your mom sounds like quite a character!

posted by bel_1965 on December 28, 2006 at 4:30 PM | link to this | reply

Julia, maybe you can be creative and make doilies with them

Ariala--
well I certainly didn't laugh at those ugly-ass curtains, hehe.

posted by Julia. on December 28, 2006 at 4:27 PM | link to this | reply

LOL, thanks for the laughs...the curtains really made me laugh out loud!
My mom was the same way...I used to tease her endlessly about it...it was so embarrassing! LOL
