I haven't really given it much thought, but I would have to say that I think "spirit" becomes involved later in the pregnacy, after most of the organs are fully developed, etc.
Even then...while in the womb... I think there is probably another "space" that the spirit occupies...outside of the body, while still close at hand...maybe kind of like a "between" stage, till the actual birth.

Oh, that is so sad. He's got a lifetime of challenge ahead. It's occurring so often in children now. When I was still teaching, I had one little girl with juvenile diabetes and was confined to a little pony wheel chair. I taught 100s of students over 21 years and that was the only case I was aware of. Take it back, I had a teacher /friend with a Down's Syndrome daughter who had juvenile diabetes. But I share your exact sympathies!

W's priorities are so messed up!
I have a 6 year old nephew with diabetes and I would rather that we spent the billions of dollars on medical research than on killing some third world country.
