Hi Tony...TV, the dead rectangle! Quite liked the expression. Sure, it is.

TV is a good thing - in moderation (that's the tricky part). Company for the elderly though, just ask my mother.

Some great comments there, Dave, Neil and ST.

It is a big issue. I suppose for those who watch it a lot, it doesn't turn off the mind but it diverts it away from doing constructive activity and also any physical activity at all, so it's bad for the health, too.

Happy Valentine's Day. Hey, that could be a theme for tonight!

I think the worst thing about TV. . .
though there are some great shows out there is that it doesn't try to turn off your mind—at least not completely. It tries to change the patterns of your mind so you'll want, want, want and buy, buy, buy and vote, vote, vote for folks that lie, lie, lie.

Happy Valentine's Day. Maybe there's an old romance playing on the TV tonight—could make for a touching evening.

Well done! May I wax hyperbolic: Guns and TV both destroy civilizations

Meanwhile, the natural snow--more south than Polar Bears desire and need -- makes for holidays in Washington Dc and surrounding areas. Be safe over there---and get rid of Tony Blair ASAP. We need Britain to be Great Britain again. ("Gandhy", aka Neil). shalom

Curse of our generation, Tony. We don't know how to control it, do we.
I like the idea of poetry being out there, but also it can be inside too, don't you think, if only we could be more brutal and turn the darn thing off. Great poem as per usual.

Thanks, Rich and JadeLynn
The TV is on now, but only for a few minutes to watch the morning news while I have a look at my emails, blogs etc.

Enjoyed it,
even though I rarely watch TV...no time for it!

Tony,
sometimes I do sit in front of the idiot box for two hours just to finish a soap opera.

Tony
So provide us with a "theme" that can kick us both up a notch.....

Well, yes I suppose so troosha, not down but apathetic.
And then I looked at the TV and thought, that's the easy answer, just turn on the TV and all problems are solved. Anyway, i've had an enjoyable evening listening to the radio instead!

Umm… feeling a little down this evening, Tony? Those winter blues got you down? We all get sucked into the “dead rectangle” particularly during the winter. I often just have it on in the background during the day for “company” when in fact I love music and could just as easily put the stereo on. I suspect you’re not one to sit on the sidelines all that often. Blame it on the blues.

Well written-it's all too easy to 'give in to the box'--I have to
sometimes battle-to switch it off-or leave the room.So-here I am on Blogit!Chris.
