I think we need a "love yourself" holiday.
We buy ourselves a Hallmark card that says you're special and wonderful and you deserve great things. Then we go to the spa and get pedicures and a nice relaxing massage. There's a wonderful dinner in a restaurant full of pampered singles, where everything is delicious. Later, a hired hunk takes us dancing, treats us like gold, and when we're ready to kick off the glass slipper, he disappears on cue. We settle down to watch a late movie and munch a couple delicious chocolate truffles. And the next morning we wake up feeling lucky to see such a wonderful face in the mirror, bed hair, pillow creases and all.

It was never celebrated in Australia (nor was Halloween) but over the past five years they've been introduced into Australian life largely, I suspect, by Hallmark and the mafia like machinations of florists! Of course people here see it as an example of the Americanization of our way of life... personally I think its just the work of local companies looking to make a buck.
