Tony
I think we must be around the same age in '73, I still clearly remember I used to quote it often picking it from somewhere without understanding, "At 18 the peaks from where you look down upon the world becomes the very caves where you hide in at 45". Wonderfully done!

Tonyzonit...
I was a recent high school graduate about that time and ready to take on the world, but I found moving away from home and paying my own rent and bills, I had little money or time left to enjoy life. My mother hid a little note under my pillow one day, when she visited me at my own apartment, which read, "Darling Daughter, come home and safe the money you are spending on rent for when you get married, someday." At eighteen I moved back home and realized that the outside world wasn't as great as I thought! Hah-Hah. The next time I left home was when I said my "I do's."
I cherish that little note and continue to hold onto it after all these years. You know, there is nothing like a mother's love.
I enjoyed your post, Obviously!!!!!!

It makes me long for summer you know, I'm not a sun person, but
I love the freedom associated with the weather.
It reminds of dusty summers in the council estate of my childhood, and going missing for hours in the adjoining forrestry where the widest tree in Ireland is.
I have to say, in all honesty, those were the happiest, free-est days of my life, but isn't that to be said of a lot of childhoods?

Great poem Tonyzonit. Time and the past - very strange creatures. They become more and more perplexing as more of them pass. I was 24 in the Summer of '73, 25 in the Fall. Mostly, I let the past stay there, in the past. I don't really want to recall that much of it. There are memories but, they fade. Some are etched but, as mentioned, I try not to visit them overly much. Neither do I spend much time in the future, if I can help it. As to each, past and future, I give them as little attention as possible. Each are there of course but, I seem to do much better if I just stick to the now. Sometimes when I look in the mirror I wonder who 'Grandpa' is looking back at the 17 yr. old kid inside. MoonSpirit

Saul - I know what you mean. I'm pretty much the same.
I only have a few memories from whole swathes of time. Most of it is long gone.

Deepananda - your daughter in Norwich?
I nearly went to university there and would have neded up living there myself, probably, if I had done. Glad that some memories were revived. I bet you were interested in WH Smith's books and mags section - Waterstones as well, of course.

Unfortunately for me, Tonyzonit, most of my life is a retrospective blur.
I have a great memory for trivia and minutiae, but lengthy memories elude me. I think I have Past Life Memory Disorder.

Good poem, my friend...

Special Sonnet, moving pictures, memory's on show, Brian Clough, football well played , and he also entertained the nation. Uniquely stubborn, but I thought he was great, like your sonnet. Tony! Thanks for posting

Yeah, it's a hell of a long time ago, I know.
Probably means f. all to the younger contingent, but to them, just think back to when you were ten, whenever that was! I didn't plant a tree myself, Neil, but I remember the phrase!

I wasn't even an itch in my Dad's keks back then.
Arrived in '75, but I can remember stuff from about 2 and a half. Funny that, and I can't remember yesterday.

Thanks guys.
I admit it is autobiographical in nature. Everyone has their own memories. I just happen to have a few fond memories of that part of my life! As I say, simply inspired by the number of the sonnet.
