Very nice - I have fond memories of North Wales from newly-wed days, and my own folks (one half of anyway) are from Barry in Glamorgan.

Well, dw, dw, there is good with you, bach! Quite a bard you are, isn't it? We shall see you at the Eisteddfod next!

When we lived in Dyfed ( what used to be Carmarthenshire )  every time we asked the kids where they wanted to go, they'd chorus either " Carreg Cennen!" or " Lanstephan!"

Carreg Cennen is really spectacular, perched on a deep cliff, and Llanstephan is down on the esturary of the Towy river.

John o' Gaunt paid ( I think ) £1 2s 6d to have Carreg Cenned slighted -- demolished.

God, these builder ain't 'arf put their prices up, ain't they, mate?

Even them Jam Rolls is at an' awl!

Hi ST - nice of you to say so.
There's something in the Welsh names, even if, like me, you can't pronounce them all, that by themselves make poetry.

What a wonderful way to spend an afternoon - visiting castles.  Strange what some people believe in.  In Montreal there is a Catherdral that is accessed by a very long pathway of stairs. Many crutches can be found at the bottom as the belief is that climbing the stairs will cure what ails you.  You story of circling the pooll 3 times reminded me of this.....

Yes, Criccieth Castle for instance was where Llewellyn the Great
imprisoned his son. Or was it the other way round? There's always lots of notoriety. Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned in more than one castle, i think. Flint, where I also visited, was where Henry Bloingbroke captured King Richard II. Henry later made himself King Henry IV.

Tonyz, this would be a definite part of any vacation across the pond for me
lots of castle visiting, especially anything with a notorious reputation...

Llanelli, I had to do UK call desk, and was reasonably good at the whole
Welsh thing.  They tested me occasionally on the phone, making me pronounce their addresses.  I'm not half modest me.

Once upon a time I almost got stranded in Swansea, but that's a long adventure, maybe post worthy.

Hi, Tony, must catch up soon.
It really makes you feel like going there! The old castles in England and France are so magnificent, and it makes me homesick.
