As far as the Oscar...
I might add, I don't think it is really a family movie, but it does make one think about things like suicide, homosexuality, heroine use, death of a close relative, what it take to be a "winner" family communications and those "beauty pageants" for little girls. So classify it as one of those "dysfunctional family" movies. Frankly, a lot of movies that get Oscars mystify me, I can see this one though, but it is not a nod to the "Lassie" genre.

food4thought, did this one deserve the Oscar nomination it got, or do
you think that was maybe just a "gesture" to family movies?..
..I haven't seen it yet, but it sounds like a good rental
