I'm waiting for our town's WIFi service to get to me.
Then I'm going to shove dial up straight up someone's, well, I'm going to bail like you wouldn't believe, anyway...

Hahaha Julia...you mean there is STILL dial-up? LOL
I've been on broadband for years and I could not handle dial-up. I do a lot of research on the computer for my practice and I need a quick response time...dial-up would make me crazy! Hey Julia, how is life treating you? The weather getting better. It has been Springlike for the past few days but we are getting a Spring snowstorm Friday and Saturday. Take care!

My DSL.....
becomes sporadic every time it rains......They're are putting up towers for wireless internet in our county......a lot cheaper and faster.....and I can have my phone taken out which saves me even more........screw AT&T!
You should be able to find a computer for your internet needs for under $400, easily.......and with an 17" or maybe 19" LCD monitor......check the ads and web sites for CompUSA....or Dell! Free shipping!! Don't let people talk you into things that are more than you need. If you'r not into gaming, downloading movies etc....you can leave off some of the bells and whistles they try and get you to buy!

Julia, hmmmmmm... sounds like a false economy to me
Surely you would also work more efficiently and produce more with a proper connection. It would then be easier to locate more work and would pay for itself soon enough.

I know what's worse -
having DSL but it runs slower than dial up because of your computer, and not knowing waht's wrong with the computer or how to fix it, and not having the money to have it repaired or buy a new one. I feel your pain!

Of course I know I'm not supposed to focus on it, but when I am sitting here for a half hour waiting for a page to load, it's kind of hard NOT to think about it, ya know?

Law Of Attraction also says
Do not focus on what you don't want. Quit focusing on dial up! It also says to act like you have it, so whip out the credit card and get that new computer!

Dial-up?? Wow. I didn't realize that even still worked.
I've got a
killer 26-baud modem I'd be willing to sell. And I'm talking 1990's prices.

in the end, you may have to weigh the cost of a computer against that of a hair transplant, or at least that of a presentable wig...

Julia,
I know the feeling. I have dial-up too. I can't afford to update, either. It is very frustrating but better than nothing, though some days I just want to drop kick the computer.

Join the dial up club!
My DSL setup was supposed to be delivered last week! I've got assignments to hand in and work to do....but it takes ages for a page to load. All this coping is preparing me for something, I guess.

Julia.
I download music from iTunes and frequently play an on-line video game, both of which would be impossible with dial-up. No way I'd give up my high speed connection, no more than I'd give up the microwave, central air, and indoor plumbing.

I thought I would have to get a new computer for dial up and found out that my old clunker works fine with Comcast High Speed Internet.. I dont know how it all works. I did have one time a few days ago that it went down and wouldnt work for about 24 hours, but other than that .. has been just fine for about a year now. They came out and hooked it all up.

I had it once. I don't even like to be reminded of those days. I think I would rather just give up the internet than deal with that again. Its too hard on the BP.
