At one point, I had 21 rose bushes and just loved them! Every January I would go out for the Zen-like experience of pruning them. Sure could have used the protectors! They would all bloom at once, roses as big as dinner plates.

Sound like you have a life (you and those roses). Each of us have different ambitions - humble or grand - and we needn't measure our "life" against those that perhaps strive for splitting the atom. Oh wait - that's been done!
