Thank you Troosha - I do like doing this romantic stuff - look out for more

Thanks, Mneme - I almost did it in Shakespearian language!
In fact, there are some traces of that in there, such as the use of 'smite' which is an obsolete word. I have done a couple of sonnets in old language before and enjoy it, but in general I try to use modern language.

Thanks so much, Bhaskar. You have encouraged me to occasionally
delve into the old styles and atmospherics by showing in your posts that people today can still relate to them, even though the romantic style is absent from most modern poetry and literature by dint of ever-changing fashion.

Thanks so much, Najwa.
What great words, and also I love the images there at the end! You have picked up on the sadness in the poem and responded to it.

Hi Discom - thanks - I tried to lend it a particular aura.

Ace, this is a really good question.
You are quite right - I meant to be specific in the first line or the second line about who this lady was / is, but for whatever reason her name never found its way in. Although I took quite a long time over it, I was at the same time struggling to finish it because of other things going on. I think you have highlighted a weakness of the poem that it doesn't say who it is about. I intend to do more sonnets about this particular lady. I may reveal who it is I'm talking about then. Watch this space!

Tony
Showing us the "softer" more romantic side of Tony - I like it.  I more than like it - it's beautiful.

Why,...you brittle-hearted Tony
This work is a classic, and like Discom beautifully says, "Ethereal and lilting". My heart feels quite warm, let me check out.

I am writing for you the words of tomorrow
When GOD comes on the land and no sorrow
If the GOD is the LOVE so the LOVE is not here
But how we cry and laugh for living every dear?
If GOD is here why the ugly unkind hearts in fear?
And who is the one will be the star of pains and tears?:
Love is the life and the life is the short time
Love is the beauty and the beauty is our sign
If you ever smell that wood smoke in the far
You will find the fire ball in love with shine star........najwa

Nice poem tony
I am not really into romantic or love poems but I like the nature and religious references, kind of makes me wonder a bit just who you are addressing in the poem.  Are you like a transcendalist talking about God or do you mean Mother Nature or do you mean your woman.  Good stuff as I think in a way it coudl be all three.  Later.

Hi mary - what you quote sounds like Robert Frosts's poem
about the wood in winter -..."and miles to go before I sleep..." Is that what you had in mind? I nearly wrote this in Elizabethan language - that's the kind of mood I was in, but I resisted, although there is still a quaint feel to this one. Many thanks for your pertinent and appreciative comments!!

This is beautiful........  I don't know why but it reminds me of:  "The woods are lovely, dark and deep.  He has kept his promises and earned his sleep."  I can't remember the name of the poet who wrote this, but your work invoked this imagery for me.  Well done.  --Joy!Mary
