Comments on Christians! Your God is not my God!

Have you ever read anything by Owen Barfield? I'm obsessed with his books... and I think he has something to say along these lines... He is regarded as a christian theologian... but I think that is only because people don't see what he is really saying... that God is bigger than the beliefs they hold about him... If you are interested in theology books Saving the Appearances is a fantastic book if you can make it through the first couple of chapters! I too am beginning to move in this direction.

Justi's "Great task"

I am so glad you responded. I hope you realize that I intended no offense either to yourself or your God in my previous post.  I had a point to make, and I thought that humor was the best course to take.  I harbor absolutely no grudge against you at all, and hope you will continue as my friend and comment freely on my future posts.

It is, as you say, a monumental task, but, like the Chinese (I think) saying, "the longest journey must begin with the first step."  I am considering a much-needed vacation during the next several weeks, and it might be two to three weeks before I can return to my writing, but "if the Good Lord is willing, and the creek 'don't' rise," I will be back.

Have a great day.

This is an incredibly great task you all are looking toward. It blows my mind but I am sure all of you are up to the task.

David1Spirit's new bible comment

That's the idea! Precisely.  The Bible of the Christians does contain a world of witt and wisdom. Let's keep it!  Let's just advance it far beyond what modern-day Christians are proving unable or unwilling to do.  Who knows?  Our new bible just very well may become the new standard and surplant the old one, much as the New Testament has virtually replaced the Old Testament.  "Where there is no vision, the people perish." Continue to think about it and help us to grow.  There is awesome power in numbers!

Let's keep all the good of the Christian Bible by undetaking a massive "weed and grass" uprooting and gardening operation upon it!  This will be the third time this has been done.  Will this third time be "the charm?"  It could be . . . if we are unselfish and wise!

Your comments on creating your "own bible" are very interesting

I have, from time to time, considered a "re-write" of that book. Taking the best the bible has to offer and interpreting them in a way that can be useful in today's world. Taking out the negatives (judgement, sin, vengeance, etc etc) and creating something that is postive, uplifting and tolerant.

I would, in some cases interpret direct quotes, but only as a way to show how peace and awareness can be created for all; regardless of past history or beliefs.

In my opinion that is probably how the original Bible started out. Then men with serious (sometimes oppressive) agendas took over and created something that I couldn't possibly live with.

Sannhet's "Your own bible?"
Yes! I'm quite serious about this. I think that such a bible is needed for a new religion.  I further think it best if such a work be accomplished by the contribution of many writers rather than just one.  As time passes, and as my posts on the Nature of The Unknown God (as determined over the previous time-frame of nearly 50 years now), proceed, please consider carefullly if you agree with the precepts of this new belief strongly enough as to submit a book chapter of your own for possible inclusion in it.  I will, periodically, be asking various ones of you here on Blogit, for volunteer submissions.  Granted, there is a lot of advance work yet to be done, including group discussions, planning meetings, etc., before then, but the times should be both exciting and  rewarding.  Thank you.

David1Spirit's peace
Thanks for your words of encouragement.  The one some-what shocking (though pleasant) part of this event has been the relatively large number of readers who have supported me in my decision.  Thank you so much; this means a lot to me.

GEPRUITT, good for you. I hope whatever path you take leads to peace

I said almost the same words that you used in your post a few years back. Made a huge difference in my life.

Peace to you!

Kr[payne's oddity

I am not abandoning Christianity because some one "ruffled my feathers."  I am not nearly so childish and shallow as that.  It goes much deeper: My dissatisfaction stems from inherent flaws in the Christian System, itself, and with the painfully slow process of change with the system. In coming posts, I will explain much more fully than that.

Thanks for your comment.

Mmmm.
Not that I'm one to be talking on your particular matter, but it seems odd to abandon something you seemed to have previously accepted based on what people say upsetting you rather than finding inherent flaws within the system for yourself. It sounds more like you're finding flaws in people instead (not hard to do). There have always been splits in Christianity regarding interpretation (and every other religion for that matter). Not to sway your direction, as I find each person creates their own personal god/system anyway, but I've always tried to base my conclusions on a given system of thought based on rationale rather than the fact some people ruffled my feathers.

Please insert a "you" after "would" in my previous reply to your comment.   "Song of Sannhet" has a pleasant ring to it!

There was not just one thing, but many.  I am not avoiding your question, and I will never do that.  I will address that entire issue in my next post.  Thank you so very much for responding.

I can understand the frustrations of the slow change in Christianity.
But what particularly is it that failed you in Christianity which you get in this other GOD? Just curious...
