As is demonstrated in the fact that you just ruined my new pen name by calling me PP.  When I find a friend who is capable of playing nice, that is the only time I have found a friend at all.

Hi Neil.
It's difficult to know whether just giving people money would be a good idea or not. I don't think that's enough. We need to create equal opportunity, and of course keep a safety net. I must go to Hyde Park again next time I'm in London - it's always an interesting place. We could take turns giving speeches about righting the world's wrongs!

That's interesting, Smartdog! I think they do, you're right.

Yes, Chris - we need to value non-material things more!

Thank you Mary - people do have a generous side.
It just needs to be encouraged. Thanks again!

Tonyzonnit-always good 2 hear U speak. This 'net things better than HydePark
....there is the proverbial soap box; but the internet allows us to be heard by the world, not only those fortunate enough to be in London's Hyde Park. Your ideas remind me of those who pushed a good-hearted Franklin Roosevelt toward creating a safety net (Wagner Act 1935, and Social Security for the old, disabled and workmen's compensation). He needed to be pushed ...being born with a silver spoon in his orifices. But he turned out great; except Father Coughlin, Dr. Townsend and especilaly Huey Long, did not get away with their BOLD & threatening ideas of "sharing the wealth"  by giving $5000 to every American. Huey Long was assassinated. SEe....your peom helped me connect with all of this and such ehroes. Viva Tony! shalomfromneil

Tony
There was an interesting study released recently where participants in a make believe world were inclined to try and steal from the rich and give to the poor.  That led researchers to believe that many of us have a 'Robin Hood' instinct.

As always, a fine sonnet

A really good piece Tony! The world has become too greedy-for riches-
fine living and wealth! Chris.

Yes, the age-old shod of push and pull when it can be so easy with just the offering of an opened palm.  Well done.  --Joy!Mary

Hi Kabu - Yes, that's another thing the media do.
Another thing they do that annoys me is reveal how police go about catching criminals and terrorists. This just means the terrorists do it different next time and are harder to catch.

Thanks Wiley, I appreciate that. It's one of my main beliefs.
Maybe it's easier for me to say than some because I'm not massively rich.

Tony I think these thoughts are very relevant throught all the world.
also I believe that this madman knew he would recieve immortality through his acts. He can rely on the media for that.

Tonyzonit

Your sonnets are special and this really made me think about something;

"Inheritance tax may not seem so grand,

But how else will the money ever flow

From haves to have nots?"

I learn something every day, never realized that quite like you wrote it.

Hi Discom - I wrote this just before I heard that sad piece of news.
In a way it undermines what I said, because you can't deny the terribleness of that event. But on the whole, life is getting slowly better, and I was concerned with the way the news bulletins make us all paranoid. I suspect that the papers and TV news have a right-wing agenda in the way they report things - or where they don't - the BBC isn't particularly right wing - then the reporting of crime has a similar effect - of making us scared and suspicious, particularly of the poor and ethnic minorities. There may be good reasons to be scared, but neither the news nor the politicians are genuinely interested in the root causes, but in preserving the status quo and helping the rich. The college shootings are nothing to do with this argument. That issue is perhaps more one of gun control.

Well PP, you certainly can read it that way.
I take your point - the boys are worse than the girls.

Yes, Troosha, we need to play our part in any change.
At least people are more aware than they have ever been in the past. Just as the powers that be become more secretive...

Thanks, Proc. The politicians are just interested in power.

Well-timed and makes sense
I just read that there was yet another shooting in the US (this time on a college campus) and I wonder if you were responding to the same sort of headlines, or that very one?

I think you should say, "Boys drink and screw and stab and shoot" and then they get the girls involved in their waywardness for a time, until the girls get wise to them.

Be it in the UK or here, the whole tax system needs some re-examination.  The rich just continue to get richer.  And generation X - well, they don't even know if they're coming or going (or if there's anything to go to).  Enjoyed the sonnet.... the thoughts and the thoughts you invoked.

Wouldnt it be lovely if the politicians stop pretending to work for the
people and actually did it?  And still come election time the masses vote in hope...Nice poem.  expresses your outrage well.
