I don't like this post very much. It reminds me of the good old days when I was a kid and every wash day my mom would be boiling a big pot of Purex water and used hankies on the kitchen stove to loosen up and remove the goobers from the cloth before rinsing them and then putting them in the washing machine. The boiling cotton hankies had a very strange offensive odor to them.

I have the impression hankies have pretty well disappeared from the scene. I actually have few left somewhere, and I will, on rare occasions, thrust one into the breast pocket of my jacket or blazer, possibly in hope that the occasion might arise where I could offer it to a damsel in distress.
Hasn't happened much, though. They usually carry some delapidated k...tissue in their bottomless bags...
For my own nose, I use said tissue or toilet paper, works like a charm, if less charmingly...

I have a very green house apparently
Jay uses handkerchiefs (I use tissue) and I wash the handkerchiefs in hot water and bleach and I iron them! I like to iron -- it's relaxing!
And we also used cloth diapers with both kids. Hubby was happy to carry the diaper pail to the washer, downstairs in the old basement. We use Amway soap products which are environment friendly and cheaper per load to use and my diapers always came out sweet and white. We had to wash them every 3rd day or so. I also breast fed so their poopie diapers weren't so stinky. We were financially conservative even with two college degrees, both working, living in a small bungalow, we couldn't afford disposable diapers, formula and baby food. We ground up what we were eating when it came time to introduce solids. We had a family bed and I never rolled over on my babies and we always found a way for together time (Jay & I). We were too lusty to let kids be an excuse.
But being poor was good for the environment, and it saved us money.

Whacky definitely a tissue but I remember as a litle girl mum used to
always insist we had a clean hanky. I know she used to boil the soiled ones in a pot. I couldn't do that.
