It feels strange, doesn’t it, to see someone’s life, someone’s possessions strewn around for auction. It almost seems disrespectful or something. I would hate that. I’ve made a list of some specific items that I want certain people to have and I would hope my loved one’s would ensure the rest goes to Charity. I would also hope they don’t rifle through my personal papers, journals, etc. but I’m not sure how one can avoid that. My will does instruct one of my friends to print all my poems and then immediately erase/format my computer upon my death. So I covered that one off.

Julia I collect fine china and have some wonderful pieces. If no one
in the family wants them I hope they put them on e-Bay so someone who will love them gets them. But other stuff, yes please give it to charity. Sounds like you had a fun time though and bought some great stuff.

I'm with you Julia...when I go whatever stuff that my family doesn't want
I would like it to go to charities. I love estate sales though. Years ago I went to one in downtown Denver in one of those old Victorian mansions. The woman lived in the early twenties and I believe she was a flapper. I got the neatest jewelry and found out that some of it is worth money. So I don't want to be a seller of an estate sale but I do enjoy being the buyer! BTW, I just saw your email...didn't check my mail til this morning. Be back to you later!

Quirk...
I wouldn't care if my trivial, materialistic things were auctioned off...BUT...anything I hold near and dear to my heart I would want my children to have.

It is sad to see, but we all know that our stuff is destined to be given up eventually. This sounds like a good source for e-bay stock!

I don't care what they do with my stuff when I'm gone. I don't have any desire to go to estate sales, auctions, garage sales, shop eBay, etc. Been there, done that and now working at getting rid of what I once enjoyed getting at a bargain.

What's a huricane lamp? I thought you were talking lava...cool, lol
I bought some bell bottoms & a peasant top the other day and I'm feeling rather groovy! When my grandfather passed away a couple of years ago we had to sort through 65 years of three of everything in order to downsize grandma and sell their home. It was an atrocity to say the least. I don't have stuff, I'm not a stuff kind of person but I have a living will that is rather odd; my kids are spoiled rotten and the rest of everyone is well to do, so I have my brother's wife-by-law as the heir to my furnishings (which is all I own besides an old car). She's worked her fingers to the bone all her days and given almost everything she owns away. I want to leave behind an impression, lol...when I go, to the one most deserving. And she has a thrift shop so if she doesn't want stuff she can profit some from it anyway.
I can appreciate your 'good deal' on the sheets, especially at $1....to not fit, lol, I've done that a few times myself. Interesting and fun read Julia.

What the kids don't want can go to the Salvation Army..I have already distributed some things I wanted them individually to have but alas like you...I go to more sales and auctions.
Great buy on the queen size stuff...I wish I could be so lucky~

I don't care what they do with it when I'm gone.
But I've already got rid of certain personal items that are nobody's business. Winnowing out the memorabilia and recycling 40 years worth of greeting cards was a good thing. I read 'em again, smiled at the jokes one last time, and off they went to come back as napkins or paper towels or printer paper for someone's great American novel. As for the things the kids gave me for mother's days and hand-made craft items -- maybe the kids who made them will want them back one day. I do have a stuffed Henry dog that kept my little guy company when he was in the hosptial with a broken leg. He lives in the top of my closet, -- okay, so I'm one of those suckers who can't throw things away...

well, when your book becomes a runaway bestseller and brings you millions, you might have a mansion to leave them!

it can be a really big job, especially if the person was a "saver" and they'd lived a really long time.
Nice to see you again too!

I certainly wouldn't want the things I cherished to get auctioned off like that, but the other stuff my relatives can do what they want with it. Now that I think about it, I really don't have a lot of stuff I truly cherish. I can't think of one thing I consider an "heirloom." My folks can do whatever they wish with all of it. In fact, I'd rather they did sell it. I certainly won't be leaving them mansions, yachts, and such.

Hi Julia
A friend's father recently died and the family got real busy until they fully liquidated all of his posessions. It's not like they needed money. I guess they just wanted to get it handled and over with.
PS nice to see you :)

I agree with you, Julia. It is very sad to see someone's personal belongings auctioned off after they've passed on. I want all my earthly possessions to go straight to charity when my time comes.
Good to read you again, btw!
