The English say tomahto! I'll have to check out your article. Last time I tried to get on AC it hosed up my computer!

Yes. I planted three varieties of tomatoes last year, and the best producer by far was the Celebrity tomatoes. My plans for planting in the future are to simply dump some fresh potting soil from the store on top of my designated area.

Tomato - tomahto... all I know is
if you plant too many, Murphy's law takes effect. As your crop comes ripe, your neighbors will suddenly bring you their bonus baskets. You'll be up to your neck in ripe tomatoes. If you plant too few the weather will turn and you'll get nubbins and hardly enough to pay for all the energy you've invested.
Oh, in case of too many, run 'em through your blender and cook them down into tomato sauce - add chopped onions, green peppers, your favorite spices. Then you'll have lovely pasta sauce all winter. You can bottle it in jars or freeze it.

Julia
There is something very gratifying about working with the earth, even though it is laborious. Hope you have a great crop this year.

afzal--
I gather that you meant you plant a vegetable garden, but forgive me, your comment struck me as funny. In America "do it" means something else entirely!

Maggie--
Black tomatoes are not really black so much as they are a deep purple. And yeah, that's the color they are when they are ready to be picked; same for the white ones although I've never grown any of them. I love the yellow pear cherry tomato and an heirloom called Big Rainbow which is multicolored. No plain ol' red tomatoes for me! LOL.

Julia............
I'm not planting any tomatoes, but I didn't know there were Black and White tomatoes. Is that their colors when they are ready to pick? Excuse my ignorance, but I'm not a farmer. hahaha
What kind of tomatoes did you plant?
Oh yeah, Julia, I've eaten yellow tomatoes and I love them. Of course, I love fried green tomatoes too, but they are just unripened red tomatoes. I read your article and I learned something.
