How strange that my colleagues and I should discuss this very same topic at the lunch table today, and then I come across your blog! Most of them did opt for putting their animals to sleep, for different reasons. Since I've never been in the same situation, I can't really comment. I can see both sides of the argument, being really short on moolah at the moment. I don't know if I could have my cat put to sleep just because of a broken limb, though. I'm glad you kept tripod!
By the way, if you got her aura photographed, I'll bet you'd still see the aura from her missing leg. Plants do that when they miss a leaf.
See? I visited your blog!!!!

Julia, you have such a big heart. I love this story. It sounds just like something you would do. I think it is wonderful that you saved and loved the three-legged wonder cat.

It was very funny when she flew across the table like that. Actually, I laugh every time I remember her doing it!

My hubby and I would have come to blows!
He is one to freak out at what I am willing to pay to save my pets (aka family members). I need to blog about Doug (my cat) and how his vet bill almost ended my marriage. LOL! I had to laugh at the table incident...the picture in my head was hilarious! Thanks for sharing Tosha (Tripod) with us!!

my own mother once said, in response to my $200 vet bill, that "it would be cheaper to have the cat put to sleep." When I expressed outrage, she claimed she didn't mean that I
should, just that it would cost less. But I said, why would you even say such a hhorrible thing?? Believe me, I was none too pleased with her comment.

Good Morning Julia....I'm sorry it took me so long to make it over here....
don't know how I missed this...Maybe because I am in and out of here lately. NEways.....What a wonderful story, and I would have done the same thing. I would spend the last penny I had to save any of my pets. Over the years we have had lots of vet expenses and it is in the thousands and in my opinion that is just part of taking care of our pets. When they need medical attention, they get it. I've never heard of putting a family member to sleep just because they have a....uh, a medical condition. Glad to hear that she lived a long life and I know you're like me...you miss her everyday!

Julia that for me is what's so great about pets. They don't live as long as
we do but they leave us with so much love and so many memories and we may have dozens of pets but each one holds a special exclusive place in our heart. Lovely post.

I couldn't help but laugh when Tosha's stump would twitch as she tried to scratch with the missing leg, LOL.

great post!!!
They do still have nerve endings-- we have has a few three legged babies here in our rescue and they would try and scratch thier ears with their stumps. ALL THREE FOUND LOVELY FOREVER HOMES --- and Ari will be having surgery when she is older to remove hers.
Yes it is VERY expensive--- but it's a life!!! Our rescue motto is "The quality of life not the quantity"
