Fantastic!
Those from without often know us better than those who've lived their entire lives within the boundaries of our country. I appreciate the celebration with us, and the criticism of us. Both hit home as far as I'm concerned. I didn't know you'd spent a year in the states. It makes your evaluations even more valid. You've seen us from within and without.
Fortunately for this country we'll have a change of administrations in a year and a half. It can't come soon enough for me. I just hope the next crew is better than the incumbents, and more attentive to the will of the people.
Again -- fantastic job. I wish I'd been in the neighborhood when you posted it.

That's right, Durbs, that's the exact main worry - not just that things are
not quite right in America, but that they are spreading everywhere else and the problem becomes globalised, if it isn't already. Nation states are already of largely historical significance. People, including Americans, are fooled into thinking it's us versus them. It should be us versus the big corporations who do what the f*** they like by bribing people and not paying taxes whether this be at home or abroad. The Iraq war is to a very real degree about the oil companies and Halliburton's interests as much as the American people's interests - even though yes, America does need the oil, but don't think they care about the ordinary Joe's needs - they don't!

Well said, Tammie! I couldn't agree more! You should post this.
You and me agree that it is up to the people to change things. They can do it, but they must decide to do it. They must see what is wrong and how they are being worked for other people's profit, and how those other people don't play fair. Fairness is important, if you're lower down the economic scale. Fairness can be demanded in a democracy by the masses. We need organisations to put political presuure on the government like they did in the sixties. it has to happen - people are too well-educated these days thanks to the Internet for there not to be some political change in the decade or two - I hope.

You are one of our best freinds...THANKS SO MUCH TONY!
I always knew that best friends offer positive and constructive comments/advice. You have brilliantly captured American politics, economics and society ...with care, footnotes, and yet, enough love for the children of the entire world. God bless America, and the world especially! Lord knows, the planet needs it. If China & India follow the US example, even economically, the planet will crumble, wither and explode. Already, China had "colonized" Africa for raw materials following the take-off stages of western economic models of the recent past.

Thank you for your Celebration Sonnet 303
I enjoyed your sonnet,
but more than that I value your comments
after the fact
it is so precious to see the disclosure of the facts
We here in America have no outside perspective
except for the one that is here
in the Online version of the world
We are many who seek to improve
upon the America that has been and gone
We who have lost our fathers to war
do not appreciate the challeges we face
or the task at our door
The worse I fear is quite near indeed
and that will be the day when your help we will surely need
It is not my America that my fathers crafted
that I have known
it is just a skelaton
and mostly bones
many pieces barely work at all without a lot of money
and most do work very hard
and still there is a quest for more and more of this and that
few people stop and ponder where it all leads
or where it all goes
or what we give up
I think of my freedom as if it matters
because it does
I pray for my freedom because it matters
because it does
I pray even for those who have been allowed to oppress me
because to hate them makes me sick
with something
that leaves me in a condition where freedom no longer matters at all
And so it is good that we should all be happy today
by the engine will roar again tommorow
and it all starts again tommorow
and we all have to learn again tommorow
to be content within this engine
this ecconomic system
where We the People seem to forget that we are the government
I keep waiting, and waiting
and waiting
for the people to rise from a slumber
and fight for our country
and take back from the lawyers what they have seemed so content
to rob from us
and I tell you it honestly matters, to me
it matters everyday of the year
but many people here only celebrate it one day a year
that is
because they have pretended that none of this matters
but I have experienced another kind of America
and the reason why it matters
is because it is like laying on a road while the engine rolls you over
and still standing
and walking
to the nearest
phone
to call for help
but 911 never does come
instead they sent a dirty cop to make it look
like the accident
had something
to do with something
that had something to do with something
that will someday be able to cost someone their ability to survive
we are all just trying to survive this machine
but I am trying to remind people that
we the people are that machine
and we the people can change
and therefore that machine will by default change
It is the fourth of July everyday, in my life.
I long, to die so that I can check in with my creator
say I was sorry for the things I did wrong
and be born again
in a neutral country.
Being a world power is not easy.
We get a lot of things wrong, very wrong.
The the biggest things we get right, its the stuff that falls in the cracks
that hurts so many people
those people never forgive our government.
I refuse, to be angry the rest of my life
I will as long as I must live here be a part of a viable solution
not willing
not to discuss
those cracks
The End.

Hi Enig - thanks for that - I appreciate it!
You're dead right - Americans are great and their country is fantastic: it's really just the current regime and the religious right I have a problem with. Hope you had a good $th July! Ooops, how ironic, it came out as a dollar, LoL!

Corbin Dallas - well in my view it's not coloured by religious belief
as this excludes huge swathes of those of other beliefs or those of no belief, has damaging effects in foreign policy - again usually towards those of other beliefs - and leads to irrational choices and hypocritical behaviour, i.e. leaders of church and state saying 'Do as i say and not as I do,' and people pretending that they believe when they don't - even Paris Hilton now suddently pretending to be all religious and conscience-stricken, merely to repair her public image. By 'the good of society' I mean for the collective good of the population; not about winners and losers, with the losers going to hell. Capitalism has proved successful over the centuries but it needs to have a human face and must be regulated. The twentieth century saw a lot of moderating influences on naked capitalism which made life a lot better. This requires a balance between right wing and (moderately) left wing, not a right wing consensus.

Somethings I would have said, somethings I would not have said - somethings, I would have added, that you would't agree with - but you're definitely not an "America-hater!" - I can "smell" one of those, all the way across the world! And I'm definitely (for the most part), an "Anglophile!!!"

antonio my friend it is so beautiful... yes there are many beautiful ....people and here always imention to my friends about my american friends , from my heart i love so many of them the conscious one and all together we have to make some change ,this is what i expect from each writer ...each poet to create new state full of love and respect understanding for other's suffer and believes ,to look out side their self to... start asking why and what and many of them are here and today i greet them as i said once the politician who create hate ...they are the one who create wars and the human being who suffer . so hoping that my all friends who deserve the freedom ..who will not stop on their freedom but will demand for other freedom in adifferent way from some of the chairs holder .
