You don't give up and then you haven't failed. Persistence = an absence of failure = success.

Perseverance is one of the less publicized traits of working writers at all levels of success. Open up your options by trying different markets and different media until you find one that will give you a chance. Rare is the successful writer who hasn't had many turn downs. The dream dies only when you quit trying. Try little magazines and small newspapers. Join a writers group, local or online. Learn what the markets want and try to give it to them. Once you're established you can do more of what you want to do. But don't ever give up.
