Republicans concerned with responsibility? Now which one of us is sounding naive there?
Your comment paints you as being equally limited by blinders as you claim me to be.
I've lived life and I've seen things. I made bad choices and corrected myself. Right now I am very aware of what is going on around me, how right now due to conservative ideas this country is loosing its freedoms and its future and our kid are not being taught responsibility. That is due to conservative ideas. I have often talked about how the Democrats are almost equally as messed up of a group as the Republicans though. We are more or less being screwed by both parties.
While I think you for the comment, you really do sound like some old fart who thinks they know it all and know what is best for everyone. You sound as rigid in your stance and thinking as you claim me to be.
Understand I am not offended, because I very much understand that everyone has the right to their views and to express themselves. Just see that it is hard for me to take you seriously when you say such things, because there really does appear to be a level of hypocrisy there.

I just read several of your comments and posts....some really good stuff, lots that I agree with, but overall.....whoa! are you ever young!! That's not a bad thing, exactly what you are supposed to be at your age....but, you are just as rigid in your stances and thinking as those you rail against....at least, in what I read. I applaud your basic tenet of personal responsibility....you would make a fine Republican....that is, you realize, the political party that really kind of pushes personal responsibility agenda versus "we'll take care of your boo boo's" (in fact, we'll pay you to make them! How's that for a deal!!!). I grew up in the golden age of drugs.....have spent many years in their magical embrace.....I was a flower child, have few sexual inhibitions....but you, sweet guy, have much to learn from a perspecive standpoint...you really haven't got enough of it to be so judgemental. You still sound very much in the teen mindset .....again, that's ok, you're not that far out of those years.....but, be wise and realize that many of us have been where you are in our heads, then raised children, have grandchildren.....and we aren't stupid just because we don't see things as you do. Yes, there is a lot of misinformation out there....on BOTH sides....try to loosen up and quit being so dogmatic....your boys will benefit greatly from a genuinely more realistic dad, and not one who just talks the talk but has blinders on to the full spectrum of experience.....but, you sound like you will get there....it may just take some time. Sorry, you just remind me so much of my sweet son-in-law.....just as know it all as I was at your age. Peace.

Abstinence ONLY programs do not work. It has been proven that they do NOT teach the needed facts about STDs and birth control and only promote one line of thinking in a manner that does not make the kids any less likely to engage in sexual activity. In fact due the lack of facts taught with abstinence only programs, the kids are more likely to make poor choices.
But we won’t let the facts get in the way of forced moral ideals.

Well, gaw-aw-lee and shazayam! I must be a moron!
And here I thought all this time that abstinence worked. Shows how much I know.

Sheesh . . .

you are so right
the sexual repression of the recent past
and to some extent today
I think has led to much sexual deviancy.
their "morality" has led to much immorality.
and what they call "immorality" is really healthy.
as to pot
REEFER MADNESS is a prime example of the misinformation spread for so long.
to demonize pot
well, that also is misinformation
when these people talk about all the evils of MJ, and then young people discover that it's not so evil as has been described, then they begin to question the talk about other drugs.
so the demonization of pot has led to harder drugs.
restriction is not healthy
a frank and honest assessment is.

Thank you very much.
I am a parent of two boys and I hope I am able to raise them to be healthy, open minded men.

Enforced Ignorance Solves Nothing
KookaLives: I congratulate you and commend you for your post. I agree with everything that you said. I haven't checked your profile yet but if you're a parent, your kids are tremendously lucky and blessed and hopefully, they will follow your wise knowledge. You're an open and honest individual and that is what kids need.
