Yes, Cringe, I certainly have felt the same from the earliest days, but
now I must admit I do also feel sorry for the parents. When you think how many parents do far worse than them and because nothing happens they get away with it, for these two to be vilified on an ongoing basis when they have lost one of their children along with the thought of what might have happened to her on their minds permanently, is an extremely cruel situation. There are a lot worse people than them in the world. Assuming, of course that they innocent, which i still think they are...

I hate this case, and only fear for the child. I'm sorry but I can't
sympathise with the parents with the parents too much.
I would never leave my children unattended for long periods, and my eldest is twelve! It's not like a baby monitor/intercom or nanny would have been an impossibility for this couple, it makes me so angry to think of the possibilities of what happened to Madeleine through the thoughtlessness of her parents.

Thanks everyone for your comments.
You all seem pretty familiar with the events, so no doubt we'll all continue to watch developments and hope for the best.

Tony -
A terrible tragedy that is getting much airtime here in the States as well. One hopes that it wasn't the parents, because it is so hard to fathom that a mother or father would kill their own child.

It's a dreadful story - one that may not have a happy ending. The Portuguese police are probably feeling the pressure and in the interest of appearing as though the are still "on top of things" had to shift gears and name the parents as suspect. Although... this is true of most child abduction cases. It's a truly sad story to follow.... I was in Europe at the time that it happened so I seemed to be glued to each new development.

As a parent I find this case too emotionally draining for words. I think
we would all just like closure of some sort. I do not want to imagine what agony this child has been put through if she is still alive.

I'm sure that the parents learned that 300 feet is too far to be away from your preschool children for any length of time without a nanny/babysitter/caregiver with them. Anything at all can happen to little children when they are out of ones sight. Too bad they had to learn it the hard way. I hope the darling child is found alive and restored to her family.

Wallmart has a large display of missing children and people at the front of the store. This is regularly updated! I don't trust those secret societies!

This has been a dramatic and "exausting" case. It's come to a point that I don't know what we can believe. I do hope the girl is alive ... it's too terrible to believe that they could actually have done it. But I guess all we can do is wait ... I think there's still a lot of water to run under that bridge.
