Re: Just what I needed to read!
no. never heard of anyone getting murdered--just irritated.
My brother once took a knife to my mom's throat and threatened her.but all he could reach was a butter knife. My son when he started to show signs punched holes in the walls because he didn't want to go to school. I do not drink because I blacked out and beat up my best friend.I know others who have it who never experience full mania ---it's like taking acid for some, others only feel life is great, increase in all desires, and than agitation grumpy etc.
Everyone is different and experiences it at different levels. If he has a violent history keep him away from the drugs and alcohol if you can, if not feel him out and try to guess his moods if he's agitated leave him alone if he wants to bitch just say yeah , wow, really-- you know don't feed the fire.
It takes alot of anger and someone provoking you to become violent. You'll be okay, I've not known anyone to get hurt seriously mostly arguing, saying things i regret later. But trust your gut and be cool you'll be okay--sorry I didn't mean to scare you. If anything his visit at worst would probably be annoying.-- so don't worry and try to have fun it could be comical
He could be okay off meds it depends , some people choose not to take them and they're okay.

Just what I needed to read!
How violent is the violence of someone off the lithium......... like, murdering someone in their sleep?
I'm not asking to be funny, it's just that I have an alcoholic, off-his-meds, bipolar person coming go stay at my house with my housie - his girlfriend - and he has said to her in an argument over the phone that he may as well not bother coming because he is just going to punch her in the face when he sees her and he'll spend the entire visit in jail.
Now, I'm not feeling too hospitable toward this guest. And I'm not too hip on sharing my home for a few days with a crazy dude who may murder me in my sleep.

Writing as a therapy is great
It helps you vent off all those feelings of frustration and impotence.

Good post.

Write On!
Bibliotherapy also worked for me, although I don't share your love of the high. Anything that gets you out of your love of the high is all to the good.
