Thank your lucky stars :)
Nautikos, blonde or brunette / helmet or not, you should thank your lucky stars you've never come across the
drivers' from HELL (i.e. almost all drivers in my country)

... cyclists here are basically ignored all together! - although miraculously (!!!) there aren't many cyclists accidents! ... yes we're supposed to drive on the left,
BUT as someone once put it,
WE PREFER TO DRIVE IN THE SHADE!!!
(so you have been warned - well maybe if you wore one of those "SCREAM" masks it would help a bit!)

By all means go blond. I think it is simply that people in civilized countries do have respect for women. Those women who get angry at that statement I say go take a cold shower.

Hmmmm. Wonder how a classic comb-over
flying in the wind would rate. I would imagine it would cause a lot of bicycle road kill, actually...

OMG, I just re-read that, it's funny as hell but maybe you'd better delete
it as that wasn't my intention!

Blonde - intend on having more fun?
What concerns me is the fact that an athletic male could be taken from behind as a woman? What is happening to the female figure that it can be confused so?

With or without helmet, I usually give cyclists ample room – I’m always afraid their going to make one quick move and WHAM. Fortunately our city has steps to create bike lanes in high traffic areas. Interesting study though….

OMG, Kabu! I hope the flight plan you've filed lists Bath, England, rather than Toronto, Ontario! This guy Walker needs a good dusting...

I'm sure you'd make a good researcher, having discovered some of the (possible) holes in this study (I haven't seen the study itself, so we can't be sure.) However, a bicycle helmet, unlike many motorcycle ones, does not cover the ears. On a bicycle, your hearing is more affected by the sound of the air rushing past, depending on your speed.
And about this blonde business, another variable would be the size of the rear reflector...

Re: When I'm in rush hour traffic and a bike rider makes better time,
LOL, Pat! I guess I shouldn't grin at drivers as I pass them, then, should I? Of course, I have reduced the size of my rear reflector considerably, to make it a less inviting target...

Maybe what is said about women drivers probably applies to female bikers too! In motorists minds, at least!

How interesting! Id have to clarify a couple of things, though....when he was just his bareheaded self, what were the results (unless I missed it, he's just comparing helmets to the wig?)? Mainly, though, how does he know he wasn't staying closer to the outside himself when he had no helmet to block his hearing the oncoming vehicles. I've never ridden with a helmet on anything but a motorcycle, and I know they significantly changed the road sounds for me.....if it's the same on a bike, I wonder if he didn't skew the results by riding safer himself in terms of how close he was to the traffic. OK, once a liability investigator, always a liability investigator.....
As for the blonde....I don't recommend it.....having been both - well, actually, just about all colors.....I can attest to the fact that blondes do get more looks, and since the hands often follow the eyes, some guy might just steer right into you.....and you do not need another accident!!!!

When I'm in rush hour traffic and a bike rider makes better time,
much better time, in fact... it just ticks me off! Helmet or no helmet, I want to catch up to his big fat rear reflector and just give him a little tap -- maybe have my passenger reach out and poke him with an umbrella... It's so frustrating when the cyclist gets up the hill and out of sight while I watch an idiot in an SUV go ahead with his left turn after the light changes, which completely knots up everything. Oh... but that's not the question, is it... Ok, ok, I vote for blonde locks (and a helmet)...
